Duke or Princeton?

Duke or Princeton? What would you guys do?

HELP!

--David--
MIAMI, FL

duke but thats just cuz im going there, also i have a friend on the princeton waitlist that would say the same...

i just say duke b/c i am not an elitist and feel that i would have more fun overall at duke.. oh yea and b/c i could have in no way gotten into princeton.

overall it depends on what you are looking for... if you want the elitist diploma goto princeton, although duke is pretty elite as well...

I chose Duke over Princeton for a variety of reasons, and I would do it again in a second. PM if you want. Basically, when I visited I thought the Duke kids were much more down-to-earth and fun than the Princeton kids were. I also thought that though the Duke kids were just as smart, they were much less arrogant in comparison to those I met at Princeton. I liked the social system here a lot better (no pretentious "eating clubs" based on your family's income) and thought that the whole Duke community was warmer and more laid back. Basically it comes down to your personality. Obviously there is something that is attracting you about each--spell that out. Visit both and see where you would fit in best.

I get the feeling that Duke kids and Princeton kids are exactly the same, there are plenty of rich, snobby, private school kids at both here; in fact, a lot are from New Jersey. I like the way a chronicle columnist put it.

"Four years ago, I had to make the choice between Princeton, in my home state of New Jersey, and Duke, in what might as well have been another country. Sure, the reason I gave them was that the kids at Princeton are snobby, elitist, boring jerks… and not knowing anybody at Duke, they bought it, hook, line and sinker. (Suckers!) The real reason, of course, was the weather."

So I think that argument is pretty moot. I will say that there are plenty of down to earth people at Duke but I cannot imagine it being that much different at Princeton. I don't know how far you want to go (I personally wanted to go across country), but I think that might basically make your choice.

i think it's mostly depend on your intended major and what you wannna do during next 4 years and after that.

Another quote that was in The Chronicle yesterday in an article about p-frosh:

"...she chatted with some girls in the hall, juxtaposing talk about the night’s debauchery with the recurring theme of college decisions.
'I was supposed to go to Princeton, but I came here and I fell in love with it,' freshman Meredith Glacken told her. Chung [a p-frosh] said she might be falling under the same spell."

I think that's what most of my friends who also turned down Princeton to come to Duke would say too...It's not that something is horribly wrong with Princeton, it's just Duke is so awesome!

I didn't face this decision (didn't apply to Princeton) but I suppose if I did, the Princeton rep, tradition, amazing faculty, etc. would be hard to turn down.

That being said, one of my best friends is there and he has told me many, many times that he wishes he had gone to Duke ("Don't you think I would be happier at Duke? Huh? Huh?"). It may be a grass-is-greener thing, but he really hates the social life at Princeton.

Yea, I thought about that, but I don't think there really is any tangible diference in terms of the quality of the faculty here, the campus is just as beautiful, and I actually thought the traditions at Princeton would be suffocating.

By the way, my friend at Princeton echoes the same reservations and dissatisfaction with the school, though he was rejected by Duke (he actually wasn't really very qualified, he didn't get into like any schools besides Princeton, I know it's weird) so that wasn't an option for him.

is social life that bad at princeton?? i'm having trouble deciding this also....princeton or duke........hmm or Williams......damn......i need help...

lol, I'm between Columbia Williams and Lehigh in addition to Duke (though its more between Duke and Columbia right now)
