Duke or tufts?

sorry, i hate these threads, but its always fun to try and make random strangers solve your problems :)

Okay, so these are my top choices out of the 4 i got into. Finances aren't a concern for this scenario. I don't know what I want to major in, but probably something in the humanities/maybe economics. I might be interested in getting an MBA and going into investment banking (if that *!@# is still around in 10+years) eventually. Imagine that I like both campuses equally, which is sort of how I feel, except Duke might be a bit close to home, and I haven't done an overnight yet (but im going to) at Tufts.

I appreciate any opinions about which to choose. Obviously the final decision I will make, probably independently of anything anybody posts, but I'm curious to see what you all would do in my position.

Jesus man. Duke by far.
How can you even ask yourself the question if you like both schools and campuses and aid is not an issue?

Duke is number 8 in the nation. Tufts is number 29 in the nation. Employers will take note…hope to see you at Duke, WOOT!!!

ok, lets say I like Tufts campus/location a lot more, and the feel of the school too.

Very different schools. I know of a lot of kids at T who applied to Brown, Amherst/Williams, Wesleyan, Columbia, Yale, but not really many who did Duke.

I’m a bit biased as a Tufts freshmen, so I’d love to you see become a fellow Jumbo =) …

But you’ve got to visit both and really decide what’s best for you.

Duke is a more preppy/athletic school with D1 sports and amazing campus spirit around athletics. Duke is very diverse from what I’ve heard, at least ethnically, 22% Asian and 10% black students, you don’t see numbers like that at many private universities. And yes of course, Duke is highly prestigious and ranked #8 in the nation. The name will take you far.

There’s a reason you like the campus and feel of our school more. I really can’t say there’s a type of Tufts students, I really think we are an extremely diverse bunch in terms of background, personality and interests. Can’t really define the spirit at TU, school spirit is generally around the fact that we’re happy to be at an amazing school with great resources that encourages us to pursue our passions—for example, to be a Tufts tour guide is incredibly competitive, they turn away 70% of people who apply–DID i mention this is an unpaid position? So while you can’t really put a finger on it the way Duke can, we are still very proud of our school, and have the same freshmen retention rate (97%).

Obviously, there’s a reason you like the “feel” of Tufts more. We are intellectual and laidback while still being very practical and effective, this is why why Tufts grads are prime candidates for positions in the real world.

And yes, recruiters do come to us just as they do to Duke, I know of seniors, mostly International Relations/Economics majors who have been placed at investment banks and big consulting firms in spite of the economy, I’m sure the situation is the same at Duke. I’m also assuming that nothing else happens in the next few months and that they still have their jobs come June/July :-)

Congrats on getting into 2 amazing schools! Go tufts! lol

thanks!

I agree with everything you said. I hope after I do an overnight I have an easier time making a decision.
