Duke or WashU

I know I am on the WashU board so I am dealing with a little bias, but I am interested in pre-med and both schools intrest me greatly. Any input from you guys would be appreciated! I like everything pretty much about each school and I know at WashU printing paper is free, which i like, but anything else?

Just my opinion, but Duke. Definitely Duke.

Duke all the way

Definitely Duke. Oh, and printing paper (and printing) is free here too, lol...

just to help mjs4n6 understand the results, how many of you were waitlisted at WUSTL?

I was raises hand in case you couldnt tell from my numerous posts on this board

duke! i didn't even apply to either WUSTL or duke.

I was offered a free flight to Wash U last year and was accepted to three undergraduate schools there (A&S, Olin, and Architecture)...which was weird because I only applied to one, I thought.

haha pyrrhus, incollege88 seems to have shat on your contention

Of course Duke! The name is more well known and they are ranked higher overall.

incollege didnt **** on anything, i knew he was a dukie "the printing paper is free here to"

did you mean pegdiver? pegdiver kinda put a wrench in the works, but sempitern played into it perfectly

OP, WUSTL is known as a research school much more than a pre-med school. I don't really know anything about Duke (other than that they lost to Michigan St. argh) But I have a friend who is really gunning for pre-med, he didn't like WUSTL because he thought it was too research oriented.

I don't know what you should decide, but don't listen to people who tell you that Duke is better because of the rankings. They're 6 spaces apart in the rankings, an insignificant difference. Also, I've heard (but don't know for sure) that Duke is full of arrogant rich kids. Wash U students are some of the friendliest, most down-to-earth people I've ever met.

Considering they are both quality schools and offer comparable educations:

Duke isn't near a big city, it's Southern. It's on the more conservative side for colleges. I think it's about the same size as Wash U. Also, has more of a wealthy, priveleged (too lazy to look up spelling) atmosphere.

Wash U = easy access to St. Louis, a medium-sized city with stuff to do. Predominantly liberal, laid-back friendly atmosphere.

I am going to Wash U, and I am very excited. At least five of my friends are going to Duke, but the "Southern Ivy" was not what I was looking for.

the southern ivy was what I was looking for and where I'm going to be going next year, that is, unless I get in to princeton or stanford

As an alumna of Duke and the parent of a WUSTL freshman, I know both schools to be potentially excellent choices for most students. I strongly believe the most important factors in determining which school you should choose are fit and feel. Within a certain range, prestige and qualities that differentiate schools on paper will have very limited effects in determining the quality of your day-to-day experiences and your long term satisfaction with your undergraduate education. These subjective factors are, of course, very personal. Visit both schools (again, if you already have) and talk with a variety of current students and alum about their perceptions, and then know that either choice will be a good decision if neither school speaks to you in a markedly more inviting way than the other.

WashU all the way. The students are more friendly (less southern) and are there because they are qualified students who are confident enough to choose a school even though most people havent heard of it.

"are there because they are qualified students who are confident enough to choose a school even though most people havent heard of it."

I disagree with both parts of that assertion

washu is known as a marketing juggernaut

wash u only has to market so much because idiots who are too weak minded to accept it as the great school that it is

sure, ok whatever, all I know is that it wasnt even on my radar until I got all that mail from them

and besides, why would they want to marked to " idiots who are too weak minded"

touche (could never find accent keys on comp)
