I've now been admitted to both Duke and WashU and don't really know how to choose. Subjectively, I've been to WUSTL and liked it alright and hope to visit Duke soon to get a true feel for the place. However, apart from my subjective feeling of belonging, I was wondering what you guys think I should consider in choosing one of these two universities. pros, cons, factoids, anecdotes. whatever.

If there are any biographical questions you need me to answer, just ask. Also, if there are any general suggestions or points to be made, I would appreciate the input.

My major will probably be psychology or philosophy.

p hp fan: i think the most important thing here would be the cost. Both schools are very good, and the most determining factor might be which school gives you more aids.

Aside from the cost, I would choose Duke over WashU anyday. Duke has amazing sports programs, amazing soical atmosphere, and noticeable better grad school/job placement than WashU. Duke is like a heaven for high caliber students who wish to have a very good social life. Duke's social life, imo, dwarfs that of WashU's in many aspects, besides the sports. Another plus is that Duke's campus is really nice, although i haven't seen WashU's campus and can't comment on that. Lastly, if this matters, Duke is considered to be more prestigious than WashU by many people.

My son is a freshman at WashU and loves it. He is in the PNP major - Philosophy, Neuroscience and Psychology. It is fabulous - I thought it was a bit strange until we went to a presentation and my husband and I both wanted to do life over again in this major. The profs were amazing and my son LOVES the major and the school.

Also, it is very simple to pick up an extra major or several minors because the requirements at WashU allow and encourage this, even over different schools. Like you can be a PNP major with a second major in computer science, art, music, or business.

As a parent, I loved the school. There is lots of advising and everyone is fantastic.

Good luck with your decision but definitely visit WashU and check out the PNP major - it sounds like it would suit you.

Duke is fantastic as well. This is a good problem to have!

washu waitlists tons of people to drive down it's acceptance rate and boost its ranking on the us news and world report
washu isn't as good as duke in any regard
choose duke

Duke...although Wash U has more to offer outside of campus in St. Louis than Duke does with Durham. But Duke has DI athletics, and is more well rounded (for pre-med they are both equal...maybe Wash U is a little better). But if you change your mind, Duke's other programs/majors are better than Wash U.
