In new york - d received blue book Monday

I think the Blue Book arrived here in FL on Monday as well.

Really well done. Full of information, but Iāve only had a chance to give it the once over.

Our Blue Book arrived on Sat and by Monday my S was already signed up with his roommate and picked a meal plan. Very easy and quick!

West coast got the Blue Book on Tuesday.

Purpleacorn-- I love the students who post in the parentās forum! Maybe we will meet you at Parentsā Weekend. Just wear a name tag āPurpleacornā and you will be surprised how many parents know you! ;)

Has anyone ever ordered any bedding from the campus store? It looks like a great deal for the price but I donāt know if the quality is really poor and Iāll have to replace in a year. Then itās not worth it but it sure is convenient and since I have a son who doesnāt really care to pick out each item himself as my 2 daughters did I was wondering if anyone else has experience with it.

In NJ here and ours arrived on Saturday. Still wrapped up with APās and other stuff here, so heāll look at it more thoroughly very soon (I hope!).

@Kelowna-Yes, āXLā is extra long. Target carries that size, as well. (In Durham, Bed Bath & Beyond and Target are in opposite directions.)

I donāt know if I want to out myself like thatā¦ Iāve got the Blue Book in Dallas, but not the catalog yet.

@garetville-Iām not familiar with the quality of the campus storeās bedding. However, since Central (where most upperclassmen are housed) have quite a few apartments will full size beds, we had to purchase new bedding for my D at Junior year.

Hey parents, are you going with your admitted students to orientation? What if you have to fly?

Got the Blue Book on Wednesday here, in the flyover country
Now off to clean my full mailbox! Sorry guys, we will be able to communicate soonā¦

@Mandoggy - yes I am planning to be there for the first two days, and I am flying in (probably a week after my Dukeā17 DS who has mandatory pre-orientation camp.)
I am originally from Europe, and since my other kid does not plan on studying in the US, this is my only chance to experience convocation and all the excitement of starting a college here. They do not bother with stuff like that in Europe Looking forward to it!

We are all going for move-in! Wouldnāt miss it. And we are all flying in from CA. Iām thinking of going a day early with DS to shop and have my husband come for move-in and parent stuff only.

I went through the Duke stores catalog. We will definitely buy several things from there. Do we really need the mattress cover and mattress pad? I was thinking of only getting the egg crate pad.

I think DS will also get his new computer through the tech dept. Does anyone know if Pratt lists someplace computer requirements, software, etc?

Wow, itās really happening! That Blue Book is sure packed full of things to think about and do!

Our Blue Book has still not arrived here in SoCal.

On another note, we have already purchased our plane tickets for move-in, but only planning on staying for the first day of orientation. Iām pretty sure my daughter will be shooing us out the doorā¦ :)

LAMom-- from a schedule I caught last year, the first day of orientation is mostly move-in things, along with some other things; the second day is a lot of the info session/convocation. The schedule is here, from last year, and the parentsā schedule starts on page 15. Iām guessing it wonāt change significantly?

And it looks good , too :)

I just went to make plane reservations for move-in, and I realized that I donāt know what to do for the ticket for my who who is actually attending Duke. Are you buying a one-way on Southwest or are you booking the return for Thanksgiving? Help. Iām not ready for this!!!

Oops. For my son

We will probably buy return for Christmas. Not planning on flying him in for Thanksgiving since we will be there in October. I donāt have the date for his camp yet so canāt book the flight :(

For those thinking about flying your D or S home for Thanksgiving, keep a couple things in mind.

It is a nightmare time to travel, we flew my D home last year at Thanksgiving and she had a miserable return travel experience on Sunday. Like several of you on here we are in CA so itās a fairly long trip.

We will not fly my D home this year for Thanksgiving. Looking at the Academic calendar for next year (itās in your Bluebook), Thanksgiving comes very late this year. There is only 1 week of classes after Thanksgiving and then a few days reading period and then finals andā¦of course winter break. So, they basically would be flying home again 2-2 and half weeks after returning from Thanksgiving break. Kelowna has it right from my perspectiveā¦go to parents weekend and then fly your kiddo home for winter break!!!

I am so glad that seasoned parents are joining this thread!
