Hello All,

I was accepted into Duke as well as Caltech and am trying to decide between the two.
Cost will be fairly expensive to both (I understand that). Whatever Caltech gives me in aid will be spent in traveling (I am located in Florida) so cost will be exorbitant no matter what xD. I wanted to do engineering as an undergrad (BME) and Caltech is a good engineering school (though I don't think it has that major). Duke has BME but is not that great of an engineering school but also has options for me to transfer into Trinity if I decide to go into medicine.
Which one should I choose given these circumstances? I am considering both engineering and medicine.

caltech is literally the best engineering school in the country, if ur sure bout engineering, choose caltech.

Thank you! I figured that if I was really sure about engineering I would go to Caltech, but then I’d be locked into engineering. I thought Duke would be a good choice because if engineering didn’t work out, I could still go into pre-med at Trinity. I guess more discussion is in order.
Thanks for your help!

One doesn’t “major” in pre-med. It is quite possible to go to Caltech, major in biology or chemistry and have the equivalent of the best pre-med education that you will find anywhere. Check with Caltech admissions and ask them how many seniors go on to med school.

Yep, I know. I was referring to the Biomechanical engineering major. I know pre-med is a chemistry or bio major. I think I’m leaning towards Caltech now…probably around 60% sure. Just waiting for financial.

Thanks for your help!

If you’re basing the decision solely on academics, Caltech is the obvious answer.
However I believe the quality of life at Duke is far superior.
