How is Duke Premed? Is it tough with grade curves, weeding out, etc? Are these factors I should even be worried about, considering that I'm willing to work hard?

It IS demanding, but every attempt is made to ensure each student succeeds (i.e., no “weeding out” and incredible efforts by hands-on faculty). Critical proof that Duke’s pre-med approach works VERY well is the 80 to 85 percent medical school acceptance rate, which is about three time the national average.

I’d say only about 2x the national average. The acceptance rate of medical school applicants overall is about 40-45%

Edit: I should amend my data above by saying that the matriculation rate is around 40-45%.

According to AAMC data, in 2012, 19517 new medical students matriculated to medical school out of a total of 45266 applicants. The applicants submitted a combined 636309 separate applications to individual schools.

Edit2: according to 2009 admissions data posted on Duke’s Office of Health Professions Advising website, for 1st time Duke applicants in 2009, 202/284 were accepted for 71% acceptance rate.
