My dad’s drilled Duke into my head ever since I was little girl. Mostly because he wants me to get him into the basketball games…but now I’m a Blue Devil at heart! Fingers crossed that my test scores don’t weight me down. And I haven’t been contacted for an interview, but after checking the website (rather obsessively I believe), I saw that if I don’t get contacted for an interview by January 20th, then I can call in.

Another RD’er here. Don’t even really know why I applied to Duke other than the fact that I’ve always thought of NC as a nice place to be (despite never having been there) and that Duke is a good school with motivated, bright students. Been spending a lot of time looking at their website lately and would love to go visit!

Hey guys! I applied to Duke because I loved their science labs and one of the professors there influenced me to explore a new interest in a specific chemistry field. That, and the fact that their 3-D room is pretty awesome are some of the reasons I applied.

@isleepalone, it’s probably good that you took a different approach, I did the whole “I want to go because blah, blah, blah…” haha. @apoc314, although I didn’t mention it in my essay, the 3-D room does sound awesome!

I would like to major in Economics. So Uchicago is top on my list being no. 1 in Economics. However Duke is my childhood dream. I don’t know what I would choose if I got into both.

I am majoring in economics too! Btw, likely letters will start coming out in early February (I think)! I don’t expect to get one, but anyone who does should definitely post, so we know they are out.

About how many students recieve likely letters? And does being a URMS really hold all that much weight in getting one? I’m sorry if those sound like dumb questions, but you can’t exactly find answers to questions like these on the FAQ page on Duke’s website. :)

350 people received likely letters last year and they are usually higher achieving. It’s really hard to say what impact being a URM has, though, except that it definitely helps some.

I want to study Economics too. I’m international so I have this paranoia that I’ve done something wrong/haven’t submitted everything. It’s a bit of a long shot for me.

Yes, what exactly is a likely letter? Is that sort of a notification of limbo of we want you but we need to see how many people actually enroll before we let you in?

Hi guys I was just wondering how do I update duke about my college application. I recently won some awards and I emailed them but I just got back a message saying that if i want to udpate i should send an email. I never got a reply back so idk wat i should do. Should I call them?
