Duke Robertsons Scholarship

Who else applied?:)

Me!

(Also, I keep bumping into the Yale SCEAers on other forums, haha)

I applied too

I did, but it was sort of a last minute thing

I applied as well - I'm still unsure about the summer commitments, but its exciting!

Add me to that list ;)

So, if any of you are chosen to become a Robertson Scholar remember this - don't just hang out with the Robertson Scholar group. You have a roommate who is also new to the school and and does not know anyone. Don't ignore them or the other individuals on your floor just because you have a ready made group of friends in the Robertson Scholar group. You take the easy way out if you choose to make other Robertson Scholars your only friends on campus.

I did too, is there any official number of how many people apply for it? We know that 18 are ultimately accepted, but it'd be nice to know how many apply.

I never heard of it untill they contacted me after I got home from Boys Nation, did any of you get contacted also, or did you find out about it via other ways?

Probably not. Technically everyone is considered for it, although it definitely helps a lot to turn in the supplement. People have won it without the supplement, though.

I applied. Whoot.

Good luck to all those who applied.

Word of caution though, for those considering it. Robertsons are sometimes scrutinized by Duke organization. And I say that with the highest respect for the integrity and fairness of Duke faculty, students, and administrators.

For example, Robertsons who did not attend Duke full time during the fall won't be able to tent in k-ville this year (policy of DSG) because apparently some Robertsons last year tented and cheered for Carolina. Even tho the Duke admins tried hard to overturn that policy, the Duke Student Gov't felt that it was justified. So, take it how you want, but that certainly made me stop and think even though I'm not a Robertson.

But hey, it's a full ride + laptop right? ;)

I applied, too! good luck to you all!

I've met several of the Robertson's and some live in my dorm. I like some more than others by far. I was really turned off during a luncheon with a faculty member and we were introducing ourselves and saying why we chose Duke. Let's just say the Robertsons in the group told us right away what they had turned down to come to Duke because of the scholarship. I had heard negative things so I have to say I had some prejudices. However, not all of them are like this at all. It sounds like an amazing program with the summer opportunities and a FULL RIDE. I just wish they weren't so elitist at Duke because there are plenty of just as amazing people. I find the relationship between the scholars and the rest of us interesting.

Not quite a full ride; Duke only offers free tuition. I knew a kid who turned down the AB Duke for Princeton because it was cheaper.

I thought all applicants are considered for merit scholarships w/o applying to them?

this is a different scholarship that is a co-scholarship with UNC and independent...if you didn't apply for the Robertson scholars...well, i dunno what to say, but don't worry about it...it won't affect whether or not the university itself gives you a scholarship...

There are several scholarships for which the top applicants to Duke are considered (i.e., there is no separate application). The Robertson does require a separate application, however.

Let me just clarify the point about K-Ville. The Robertsons who were barred from tenting in K-Ville were the UNC Robertsons, who essentially took advantage of their dual-enrollment status to infiltrate Cameron and cheer for that pitiful team down the road. Duke Robertsons are certainly allowed to tent!

Oh my god... Those douche bags

My mistake, I apologize. But at the end of the day, it's really the perception that counts and the Chronicle didn't really do a good job of distinguishing the UNC Robertsons and the Duke Robertsons, it's unfair tarring them all with the same brush, but eh...shrugs

Also, I always thought that all Duke applicants are considered for all merit scholarships including the Robertson and the supplement was only optional (although I'll bet that your chances will be somewhat higher if you did do the supplement).

Well, has the deadline for the scholarship passed?
