I will be applying to Duke ED this fall and am hesitating between both schools. I am set on double majoring in Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering and minoring in Chinese. Is this program more easily achieved through Pratt or Trinity? I am afraid if I attend Trinity a transfer will be required to study BME and vice versa if I attend Pratt and want to pursue Chinese.
What would you advise?
You don’t need to declare a major until your 2nd year. It is possible to transfer from Trinity to Pratt. Its easier to transfer the other way around. Take a look at the degree reqirements from both Trinity and pratt. But my guess is that it will probably be easier if you were a Pratt student.
If you are set on this, you MUST enroll in Pratt. If you plan to major in any engineering discipline, that has to be your “first major” and you must be in the Pratt School of Engineering. You can still minor/major in Trinity departments as much as you’d like while enrolled in Pratt. You will NOT have to transfer to Trinity to major in Comp Sci and minor in Chinese (unless you “drop” BME). Trinity students cannot pick up a Pratt major, but Pratt students can pick up a Trinity major (they must also have at least one major in Pratt to be considered a Pratt student of course).
I minored in something in Trinity as a BME major enrolled in Pratt. And I knew plenty of double/triple majors/minors of students in Pratt with a wide variety of Trinity disciplines.
