<p>Duke started a study several years ago investigating the friendships and relationships of Duke students as well as the factors that play into the formation of them. The report was recently released and is a very interesting read. </p>
<p>Some interesting tidbits:
[ul][<em>]Students have an average of 7 "really good" friends and 5 life-long friends
[</em>]Slightly more than 1/3 of students are in a relationship
[<em>]Approximately 50% of students have had at least one date in the last 6 months
[</em>]55% of students have hooked up in the last 6 months
[<em>]Most students claim to be "hardly ever" lonely at Duke
[</em>]Self-esteem rises from freshman to senior year
[<em>]Students participate in an average of 3 clubs and spend an average of 7 hours a week on them
[</em>]73% of men and 31% of women participate in organized athletics at Duke
[<em>]Approximately 50% of students identify themselves as nondrinkers or light drinkers
[</em>]According to the WHO AUDIT measure, 5% of women and 11% of men have worrisome levels of alcohol intake
[<em>]55% of students report that "no time" or "little time" with friends is spent drinking
[</em>]Students report that an average of 5 professors would recognize them outside of class
[li]Students report that they could have a conversation with at least 6 professors[/ul]</p>[/li]
