I havent received any email about PORTAL or Application status check from Duke.
Has anyone of you received email about Duke portal??

Received this a long time ago:

Thank you for your interest in Duke University and for submitting your application to us. We have
created a user account to allow you to:

a) track the status of your application and see which required items have been received and which
are still missing
b) verify and update demographic information you submitted on your application
c) track the status of your financial aid application, if you intend to apply, and see which items
have been received and which are still missing.

It happened to my son as well.

The email with login info went into spam/Junk mail box. Check there.

The status check shows that they received the ‘School Report’, but not the ‘Counselor Evaluation’. Hmmm! I thought Counselor Eval is part of School Report.

Anybody in similar situation?

On behalf of my D, I sent an email and then called just to verify everything was okay. Most of our info was in as of last September, but it always worried me about that ‘Counselor Evaluation’ status. In December we sent updated transcripts, and phoned and was told “no problem” everything is fine but that ‘Counselor Evaluation’ still stayed the same.

I got a call back at the end of Friday. I was so thankful that someone returned my call in what surely is a busy time for them. I explained my question, "We had everything done last September, called again December, sorry to be a bother and just calling to make sure everything is okay. We used the Common application, the counselor for/Secondary School Report and two Teacher evaluations sent in, is there something we are missing?

“Oh yes”, said the lady on the phone… “I am looking at your admission file and we are missing two teacher letters of recommendation”.

“What!?!” But the status screen says you have the teacher evaluation forms.

“Oh we have those, we need individually written letters of reccomendation in addition to those forms.”

“What!?! It’s January 21st and after 4 months, a phone call in December and now today, we’re being told this on January 21st!?!” “I was just calling about the counselor/school report on the status screen, why isn’t this or what you are talking about listed somewhere or on the status screen?!!”

“Sir” says the lady “would you like me to remove your daughter’s application from our system…”

“What!?!”…(I think) “Please do so”… {click}

We’ve ran the poor teachers and counselors ragged over the last few months, not gonna bug them again and if we did, it would take them a month to get it done. My call in December asked if it was okay that a college professor filled out the teacher form because my D had been dual enrolled in college since the 11th grade and only had one high school teacher since then. The answer was “that is fine”, “everything is fine”…

We have had no problem with any other “common application college” nor college specific application or rules. I can find nowhere that says “besides these forms”, “in addition to these forms” you also need the teacher’s to author totally seperate letters of reccomendation in addition to the filling out the common application recommendation form".

Meanwhile, I never did get an answer to my original counselor question and tomorrow morning I have to tell my D that Duke just dropped off the list. Can anyone tell us where we went wrong or can point us to some instructions we missed? We originally were doing non-binding Early Admissions in the fall. But got delayed when we needed to get a college professor to fill out a teacher form… Maybe there exists alot of extra stuff for Regular Admissions that we missed?

If you can’t find it emailthem and say you can’t find it (happened to me) and they’ll send another. Email you request to help@oit.duke.edu

I received the e-mail a while ago, but for some reason when I go to https://shib-external.oit.duke.edu/idp/Authn/UserPassword all I get is a blank page :(

I get the same thing sandra

Is this really the case? I was under the impression that Duke, like most (all?) Common App schools would accept electronically submitted recommendations through the Common App site. I didn’t see anything on their Application Instructions from their website that would contradict this.

Me neither, BigKev. I am not going to stress about this, it’s not like Pomona where everyone knows there are extra pieces you have to hunt around to submit (listed only on their website, not Common App).

NEVER heard this about Duke.

you gotta go to this link: <a href=“Student Information Services and Systems | Duke”>Student Information Services and Systems | Duke;

One of the teachers that my son asked for a letter of rec from, sent the letter via electronic mail and Duke did receive it and does accept them. I called after seeing this thread to double check that all of my S’s letters were indeed received and they were. So I’m not sure why people are saying that this is not possible.

What is the difference between an Teacher Evaluation and a Teacher Recommendation? Aren’t they both the same?

All of my recommendations and midyear grades were sent electronically and Duke has posted that they have all my information. Not really sure what happened with Boatfoot but I would not worry about it. Also not sure why a dad is calling on behalf of his daughter…that never sits will with the admission gods

Could it be that the teachers filled in the top of the form but only put a sentence or two in the evaluation? Usually teachers attach a letter and maybe Duke is looking for something longer/more detailed than what wa submitted.

^That’s what I was thinking. It sounds like the teachers only filled out the forms and did not submit letters of recommendation. It’s common practice to attach a full letter to the specific evaluation.

I sent my fafsa to DUKE on January 22nd, and made correction on Feb. 2nd when my mom did tax return. (got SAR for both date)
On the duke application status, it says that they got CSS profile but FAFSA has not been received yet.

How’s everyone’s status?? Is it just me?

I submitted my financial aid stuff a long time ago too and it hasn’t showed up on Duke’s website. I got an email from the financial aid office in mid-January that said FAFSA info won’t be available to them until Feb. 15th, and it probably takes a while to process it, so I wouldn’t worry about it, wintercake21.

This is the e-mail I got from the Financial Aid office after I e-mailed them about this issue:

I believe this notice was also posted on the Financial Aid website. Don’t worry about it.
