Duke Supplemental Essay Question

I'm applying to the Trinity School, and one of the essay questions refers to a research experience. I haven't necessarily done any scientific research. However, I have been an intern at a think-tank in Washington, DC and I volunteered on a mayoral campaign in my homerown a few years ago. Do you think canvassing/calling to identify supporters and poll potential voters would qualify as political research, to an extent?

“Do you think canvassing/calling to identify supporters and poll potential voters would qualify as political research, to an extent?”
Ehh that is stretching it a little too much. By research most of them refer to working in labs. Sorry…

While I don’t think calling to identify supporters is research, the polling part can be if you were involved at all with the data analysis. Research doesn’t have to be in a lab, there’s research in economic, political science, social sciences and even english and history.

That said, doing grunt work is not research. It’s a part of research, but if that’s all you are doing, don’t BS.

The research experience is only for Pratties! Trinity kids just write the “Why Duke” essay…

^no, i wrote a research essay and i am a trinity kiddo.

don’t worry! the essay is optional and if you have not had research experience, they are in no way going to hold it against you. :)

My bad, those essays won’t break your application…

" The following questions are optional—and yes, they truly are optional! If you choose not to answer them, your chance of admission will not be affected. "
