I took the SAT in seventh grade through a program from duke university and i was wondering if there is anybody that can give me feed back on their scores in the seventh gradeand if they have took the SAT in later grades and what they made.
My scores:
Math: 500
Critical Reading: 450
Writing: 410
Essay: 8

^I am in HS but I haven’t taken a real SAT yet. I am doing about 500 points better than I did in 7th grade (a conservative estimate based on practice tests).

For CTY JHU summer program you need to score 510 CR and/or 580 Math.

For CTY JHU Grand Award you need 700 CR or 700 Math

In 2007 - 480 students in 7th grade who got Grand Award, 59 achieved perfect score
In 2008 - 540 students in 7th grade who got Grand Award, 54 achieved perfect score,
In 2009 - 625 students in 7th grade who got Grand Award, 140 achieved perfect score.

^ What seniors should have said was your score MAY BE average for TIP. JHU will have different scores from Duke based on different states being averaged. Your scores are above what is expected from 7th grades.

I could have gone to the Duke summer program but i didnt go. I think 3 people that took the SAT with me(that i know of) got some type of honors thing because of their SAT score. The odd thing is that i make better grades then all 3 of them. But ine of my questions is do you think i can get my SAT’s to the 2100 range if i keep good a good gpa? My gpa through middle school is 3.9- 4.0 i never made a B.

The point of Talent Searches aren’t for SAT prep. The purpose is to test gifted kids with standardized tests with a much higher ceiling than your typical state test to evaluate exactly how gifted one is. Then, one can take really cool classes through these talent searches and meet some really fascinating kids. I loved CTY more than anything and it helped me survive high school.

Dear Qazhby,
You will do fine in terms of the SAT when you get to 11th grade. My child and some of his friends also took the SATs in 6th/7th, and I know a bit about the JHU CTY program which is very like Duke’s TIP. Save yourself much wasted effort and grief and ignore more of the tips for doing well on the SATs. Just read broadly (with a dictionary handy), and do well in whatever math sequence you have and you will do fine.
Your scores are not uncommon for GIFTED KIDS - they are exellent for a 7th grader.
Think of it this way - they aren’t much below average for 11th graders.
