My mom graduated from Duke and she is a pretty involved alumni. I am looking to apply ED to Duke and I know the legacy admissions rate is around a 20 percent chance. What do you think my chances are with a 1500 (720 E 780 M) on the SAT and with the following GPA:
Freshman Year: 10.0 on 12 point scale
Sophmore year: 10.9 on 12 point scale
Junior Year: 11.4 on 12 point scale
You might want to look at the Common Data Set for Duke, and specifically at the following sections: Section C7 tells you how Duke weighs both academic and non-academic admissions factors, and specifically how much the “alumni/ae relation” factor is weighted; Section C9 gives you the SAT and ACT ranges of admitted students; Section C10 tells you how admitted students ranked in their respective high schools; and Section C11 gives you the GPA ranges of admitted students. Reviewing this information can give you some idea of how you might fit in, statistically, compared to recently admitted classes at Duke.
If your high school has Naviance or a similar software package, you might check on that (on Naviance, the scattergrams that plot GPA vs. test scores) to see how you compare with other students in your high school who have applied to Duke.
