@carfin thatās what I originally thought, but when you start typing results for different colleges pop up- you put what school you plan on attending if you donāt get off the waitlist

Rejected as well. I have a 1560/36 and solid grades but applied as a music major with a strong focus on that in my extracurriculars and essays. Also submitted a music portfolio that received highest ranking by the department.
Why I think I was rejected? Reason 1 could be that they simply need to reject lots of qualified applicants in order to get down to a reasonable class number, so the 5.7% RD rate just didnāt work out for me this time.
Reason 2 could be that I wasnāt what they were looking for in an applicant. I definitely prioritize music over academics, though I am successful in both. I had heard that Duke was actively trying to recruit more artistic students, but maybe that isnāt true, and they didnāt think I was āDuke material.ā But itās just the way it worked out; if I had to redo it I wouldnāt change anything.
Reason 3āyou hear about prestigious schools rejecting people who they think they might lose to Ivies (may not be as big a thing as people say). Perhaps, Duke rejected me because they thought I would end up at a top conservatory-style music program? Seems unlikely, but I suppose itās possible.
Iād also like to point out that Iām not trying to be salty about this. Iām sure the candidates who got picked over me were more highly qualified in what the admissions officers were looking for, and so they got the spot this time. You canāt win everything! Congratulations to everyone who got into great schools today!

Waitlisted! I am extremely surprised that I was not rejected considering all of the amazing applicants here. Does anyone know how hard it is to get off of the waitlist?
1570 SAT, 780+ on 3 subject tests, 4.0 UW GPA, 4.6 W GPA, salutatorian from MA public school
No nationally-ranked ECs or awards besides National Merit Finalist, probably my weak point

My son was accepted. After multiple rejections. It is his dream school. I can truly say Iāve never been so stressed out in my life and never felt a happier rush of emotions! It is truly a dream come true. I know how hard this is, you are all amazing, accomplished students that work so hard. Good luck!!
