Hey guys! I was just waitlisted at Duke, and I saw that in previous years, waitlist threads have been used to communicate updates and share strategies, so I thought I’d create this thread.
does anyone know how many people were waitlisted?
I’m not sure how many were offered a spot on the waitlist, but the frequently asked questions say “In the last several years, around 1,000 students a year have decided to stay on Duke’s waiting list”
I found this on the FAQ:
“In the last decade, the number we have been able to accept from the waiting list in each school has ranged from a low of 1 to a high of 200.”
And this is from my decision letter:
“We usually know by the middle of May approximately how many students we will be able to admit from the waiting list; in the past several years, forty to fifty spaces in the class have typically become available.”
@stressed2019 wow that’s so low. Anyone know anything about how to get off waitlists
Hey all! I was just wondering, if we are planning on sending a LOCI, who should we send it to/ how do we find out who our local admissions officers are? Also, I know waitlist decisions usually come out in rounds- is it possible that the first round will be in early may (right after deposit deadlines?)
5% (50/~1000)acceptance rate of the waitlist… yikes.
Still in the running I suppose, but not good odds.
On the bright side, if 1000 ish students accept a spot and they extend the waitlist offer to, say, 3000 students, then you were in the top 1ish percent of their applicant pool. If nothing else, give yourself a pat on the back!
Weird how the waitlist acceptance rate (5%) is almost the same as the entire RD acceptance rate (5.7%?)
Anything else we can send besides a LOCI?
@needcoffee35 here is the link to search for your regional admissions officer https://admissions.duke.edu/contact
oops My bad. I meant to type 10-15 but I guess it got cut off for the percentages.
@stressed2019 generally a LOCI already involves accomplishments and reiterations of interest so I wouldn’t bother them too much. At the end of the day, unless you’re taking a gap year otherwise, you should absolutely shoot your shot but also move on.
Hey guys, I’m an international student with 1400 (650 + 750) SAT. I was accepted into some LACs; do you think increasing my score will help me get off the Duke waitlist? Also I had two 750+ SAT subject tests and I applied to Pratt.
@AnxiouselyHappy given that you’re scores are frankly pretty low for Pratt, the fact that you got on the waitlist probably means good things about the rest of your application. I would go for it.
Hi when responding to Duke Wait List form, do you indicate the college you likely to attend or leave it blank? thanks
I was accepted to WashU and waitlisted to Duke. Planning premed track. Should I consider WashU?
@pandi2023 I indicated the college I am likely to attend
this might be a dumb question, but should I copy and paste my LOCI into an email or should I attach it to the email as a pdf?
@needcoffee35 I would do both. That way your info is readily readable without opening an attachment & easily included as part of your file (pdf).
I chose the Duke, Durham, NC from the pull-down list.
@gogogo2023 hmm oh no I didn’t think about that. What did everyone else do/ should I change it to Duke if Duke is my 1st choice?
