Duke University Waitlist 2023

@sighcollege @RachThree @vc_scrubjay Do you get any scholarship or financial aid, as a newly admitted student from waitlists?

I don’t qualify for financial aid, so I can’t say for sure. However, I think most colleges will offer financial aid to students who get off the waitlist and need it.

@RachThree Thank you for your information!

So my daughter, who is waitlisted, was preparing to enroll at another university. But reading the fine print said she had to withdraw all other applications. Does that include waitlists?

@sumguy it might have deterred you from getting an early (before may 1) decision like some of us here, but as long as you sent it before may 1 i dont really think that should affect your chances negatively too much, since they still need time to determine exactly how many spaces they need to fill off the waitlist

@springgreen female from
nj :slight_smile:

@hullo4107 thanks mate :slight_smile:

@XJJohn im still able to apply for financial aid, but since i havent yet i probably wont get the financial aid decision until after the deadline to commit

@Spartak1212 i sent mine about 1.5-2 weeks ago, and yep only to regional admissions officer

@Eyeful_Tower I would contact the university to be certain, but she shouldn’t have to withdraw from waitlists. I don’t know of any college that forces accepted students to do that.

What were your stats if you dont mind? Im currently on the waiting list!

@sighcollege @vc_scrubjay what were your stats if you dont mind?

1600 SAT
1470 PSAT
800 on the Molecular Biology, chemistry, and math 2 subject tests
5.1 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted
5’s on 5 AP exams

I think, once you get waitlisted though, that stats don’t really matter.

Congrats to those accepted! I committed elsewhere on Sunday, so hopefully that opens up a spot for anyone still waiting :slight_smile:

argh I hope nobody decides to attend Duke this year! Maybe it’ll be one of those years where they take hundreds of kids off the waitlist

@sumguy It’s possible. I have no idea how good of an indicator this is, but the unofficial Class of 2023 Facebook page only has 1230 members. I think the number of admitted students is much larger. There’s definitely still hope. Good luck!

@RachThree
Appreciate the info. Although I think since everyone who gets in can join the group regardless of whether you attend (also the fact that certainly not all admitted students use facebook) so it’s not too reassuring to me.

I mentioned in my LOCI an interest for a Trinity major as well despite being a pratt applicant. You think they would consider me for both? I had some pretty compelling reasons for interest the trinity major, I thought.

@sumguy I did that too! I’m not sure if they would consider you for both. Probably not since we had to write a Pratt specific essay to apply. However, I think it might make your display of interest seem stronger. It’s definitely an interesting idea, and even if they don’t consider you for both, it might help. I hope it does.

@Eyeful_Tower , no. She can stay on WL. She just needs to decline everywhere she was accepted.

The only people who can’t be on a WL are ones who were admitted ED (who should have withdrawn everything way back then.) They are committed!

Congratulations, that is awesome!
