You didn’t say what classes you had taken. At UVa class rigor is counted. Also, if you are considering engineering if you think you can bring up the SAT math score at all that may help. They use a holistic admissions process so your essay is really important. Think of it as your interview. Google McEssay and you will find an article about college essay writing that is really helpful, written in plain english to put the essay in your voice, and to help you show, not tell. These are important in the UVa essay. Dean J, the Dean of Admissions at UVa has a blog that is really awesome with great tips. You can find it on their website. You can go through the archives to help you see what she has offered as advise in previous admission seasons. Keep in mind that in Virginia, public schools are required to admit 70% in state/30% OOS. This can be misleading and work for OOS. With the economy so bad the OOS applications may be down actually making stats lower for OOS in a given year. You never know.
I hope this was helpful. Good luck! I’m sure you will find the right college home for you!! :)

Thanks! My schedule is the most rigorous my school offers (at least I’m pretty sure it is), and I’m not considering engineering, but on the PSAT my math was 770 so I’m probably going to retake it to raise my math up to where it should be, unless I do really well on the ACT today

i am assuming your from wisconsin…i am too. i am a junior and my counselors suggested to not take the sat. did you prefer the sat over the act?

No, I preferred the ACT. I was more crunched for time, but other than the math, the other sections were much easier. I hate the vocab and the pick the error section on the SAT, so I think I did better on the ACT, but I guess I’ll see. Students in the senior class tend to recommend taking them both, then retaking the one you did better on

i ran out of time on the science and reading. i think i definitely could have improved my score if i had more time. i am not interested in many of the uw schools except madison and minnesota twin cities. i have a 3.4 gpa with a rigorous schedule…a couple ap’s and honors. saldy, i am estimating a 23 on my act. i am looking into a physicians assistant or a journalist. do you have any recommendations for schools? out of state is quite expensive but it seems like that may be my other option. oh and i am also involved in many extra curriculars and volunteer activities.

Try looking into UW-Whitewater and UW-LaCrosse, they’re the best UW schools outside of Madison. Or maybe MATC then transfer after two years. I think I did best on english, and I did fairly good on science and reading. Usually math is my strongest, but there were 4 or 5 that I did just not know at all

english was pretty easy, and i thought the writing portion wasnt too bad either. i am looking into la crosse, but ive always wanted to go someplace bigger. not to sound picky, but coming from a small town, id like to go to a larger area! ive heard whitewater is more of a commuter school. a lot of kids at my school tend to go to milwaukee for a year and then transfer to madison. do you know the typical act score for admission at twin?

the 25-75th percentile is 24-29
