Duke vs Berkeley

I got into Berkeley for CS in the Letters and Sciences college. I got waitlisted at Duke. Probably going to Berkeley. Should I feel like I downgraded to a worse school? Or would Duke have been better for CS?

How can you downgrade when you weren’t accepted to Duke? Just accept the waitlist opportunity at Duke and wait for other college decisions if you have any. If not, then wait if you get off the waitlist by May 1.

I’m sorry, that feeling is pretty silly.

If anything, it would be the reverse—Duke would be a downgrade in CS. Berkeley has one of the top CS programs in the country, plus a terrific location in terms of finding a job in tech after you graduate. Its only negative (for some people) is its huge size. You won the lottery—congratulations!

I agree with everyone else. It’s really not a downgrade at all, if anything Berkeley offers a much better opportunity for CS than Duke.

Berkeley has (arguably) the best CS program in the country. And since it’s located in the silicon valley area you’ll have the opportunities to work in large technology companies and startups.

Well said, CAL is the superior school for the major and moreover, seamless into the industry.

@k4vglitcher‌ I meant it more like should I feel bad that I didn’t get into Duke CS? Like was the Berkeley offer of admission for CS better than the hypothetical scenario of if I got into Duke?

But thanks everyone for the input!!! I feel a lot better.

Are you kidding! Berkeley is superior to Duke for CS. It isn’t even close.
I would choose Berkeley over Duke, in a heartbeat.

Berkeley is the clear choice, assuming their financial aid is sufficient for your needs.
