Any insights. D interested in BME/premed.

JHU> Duke> columbia >> tufts >=cornell > umich.

In short: If you’re intersted in medicine. JHU. want some fun added to it ? Duke. easy. =)

The above post seems to be based on hearsay and stereotypes, not actual knowledge about any of the schools involved. Hopkins is no better than any other top university for pre-med; I have no idea how or why the rumor that it somehow possesses a magical formula for med school admissions consistently gets passed around.

mommom, any of those schools would work perfectly well for pre-med, and the strength of the BME program (they’re all decent) is largely irrelevant if that is her goal. She needs to look more closely at each of the colleges and decide which fits her best.

Personally, I can’t imagine the same person liking both Columbia and Duke. One is a tiny, compact campus in the middle of bustling NYC where the social life revolves around the city. The other is an extremely large, sprawling campus in the middle of suburban NC with big athletics and a “bubble” feel. Tufts and Michigan are likewise virtual opposites.

I LOVE both Columbia and Duke…

What if D prefers less cut throat environment? More collegial…

Here’s my take on Columbia:

From my experiences, Duke gives students a much more typical collegiate experience. It’s less cut-throat then it’s peer schools; it’s a very collaborative environment.
