Duke vs Penn Economics

Anyone able to compare?

penn’s CAS is just bad. if ur not into wharton don’t go to penn. waste of 4 years. 'nuff said.

I think it would be in OP’s best interest to completely disregard the above post.

My brother was pre-med at UPenn and he was an economics major and he agreed that Penn really devotes a lot of its resources to Wharton. He wasn’t able to get into any of the “special classes” because they were for Wharton students only. Although I can’t comment on Duke’s economics program, and I’m sure you will still get a great education at Penn, I think it’s just something to consider about where a school chooses to devote its money.

Duke and Penn offer very similar academic experiences. Choose which school you like more as a whole.

The above post is correct though - there’s a very obvious division between Wharton and the rest of Penn.

So… Wharton is definitely better than the business school in Duke? As a whole, is Duke a better under grad then UPenn?

Duke has an amazing top 10 business and economics programs. Undergrad at Duke is much better than UPenn as they focus much of their resources at Wharton.

@ OP: I would also post your question on the Penn forum if I were you.

I wouldn’t say that undergrad at Duke is “much better” than at Penn. Duke does have a distinct focus on undergrads, but Penn also devotes a lot of resources to undergrad. I agree Duke has a greater focus, but not a much greater focus. Yes, Penn devotes a lot of their resources to Wharton, but they also devote a lot of resources to their other programs. My friend who attends is quite pleased with the quality of undergraduate education there.

OP, Duke (along with most top schools) don’t have an undergraduate business program to compare to Penn’s Wharton. The major difference between studying business at Duke or at Wharton will probably be the well-roundedness of your education (moreso at Duke).

Penn is a great school and I have many friends who love it there as well. This choice is about fit in this case - visit to see which you like.

I think I am leaning towards Duke. I’ll check Penn forums. I Duke better as a whole-so that right there does it.
