Duke vs Rice vs USC vs Northwestern for engineering

<p>I am an international and have problem of plenty. So far I have shortlisted these 4 great universities out of 14 acceptances. Rejected from MIT and caltech. Please advise aboutpros and cons on selecting one out of these four. I most propably would do computer science/engineering.</p>

<p>If I was hiring someone, I’d be impressed with any of these schools. I can’t think of an obvious advantage one would have over the others.</p>

<p>Among these four schools, I’d stay it’s more about which school you like rather than any particular CS/CE department. You can’t go wrong with any of them.</p>

<p>Congrats on being accepted to so many great schools. Choosing between
them is tough, and it really depends on what factors are most important
to you. Academically, all four are great and well-respected, so you
would probably want to consider some of the softer factors like size of
school, location, weather, and general student life. You should also check out the viterbi admissions page and their blogs to read about campus visits, which are a great way to help make this decision: [USC</a> - Viterbi School of Engineering - First-Year Applicants](<a href=“http://viterbi.usc.edu/admission/freshman/]USC”>http://viterbi.usc.edu/admission/freshman/)</p>

<p>I will say that USC Viterbi has a great small-school feeling to it,
because each incoming class is only ~400 students and lecture sizes are
very small and you get to know your professors. At the same time, we’re
part of USC, which has 18,000+ undergrads, so there are tons of
opportunities here. There’s also a lot to be said for our very active
alumni network, the Trojan Family. I’ve already received multiple
internship offers thanks in part to alumni. Southern California is also
a great place to go to school. The weather is fantastic (pretty moderate
and sunny all year except hot summers and a little rain in winter), and
there is a lot to do in Los Angeles, which is a very international city.</p>

<p>As far as student life, I know that can be hard to gauge without
visiting each school, and I’m sure that would be difficult as an
international student (but I still recommend you do visit if you can), but my fellow students and I have put together a great set of online resources for you to get an idea of what student life is like at USC, and I encourage you to check it out:

<p>I’m afraid I don’t know too much about the other three schools, but if
you have any additional questions about Viterbi, I’d be happy to answer!</p>

<p>Good luck choosing!</p>
