Duke vs. Stanford, please help, going crazy

Not really worried about the prices of anything since parents will be paying for everything. I love weather. NEED good weather. But I also NEED freetime. Such a hard decision!

Choose DUKE.

so which place would provide more free time???

Definitely [url=<a href="http://www.siss.duke.edu/schedule/1260/FREETIME%5DDuke%5B/url">http://www.siss.duke.edu/schedule/1260/FREETIME]Duke[/url</a>] :D

Consider the school farther from home. If you are truly undecided based on all of your priorities and want encouragement to attend one or the other, then go to Stanford. Of the six or so Stanford students that I know, none have ever complained about selecting & attending Stanford. Although Duke & Stanford are similiar in many respects, I think that it would be more difficult to decide among Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth & Stanford. If you disagree, ask yourself why and apply those reasons to your current situation to find your answer.

Dartmouth - why? Tiny school; freezing town; little presence beyond itself or later on. The other two (HP) are in entirely diff't league admissions-wise this year. I went to Stanford and it's much more laid back than Duke. My daughter goes to Duke - did not apply to Stanford as she's east coast and it seemed too far away to her (but did visit there and liked it). She could be poster child for her school - weather is super and she says it's epitomy of "work hard, play hard." Very social but she busts her bu-- in courses and says everyone does that. Stanford had less of a social life when I was there as no sororities and frats were ill-organized. Nevertheless, nice choice to have.

well thank you for everyone's input! I'm going to visit duke for my spring break (for blue devil days) week after next. I live about 20 mins from stanford, so i am definitely considering location. both in the respect of wanting to get away, but also considering that being close to home is a good thing if i get sick again (i recently finished treatment for cancer :/ so im not in the all clear until the end of 5 years) its nice to here all of you're comparisons on laid back and free time.

Thanks again!

Best wishes! We might do Blue Devil Days here (Palo Alto...hmmm).
