these are my top four.

which one should i pick?

i'll answer as briefly as you asked...UVA! the LONG answer has a lot to do with who you are, what you want, where are you from, majors, etc, etc. are you in at all 4?

Well...I'm biased (I adore Tulane) so I'm gonna go for Tulane, especially if you're in the honors program and are into some form of community service. I hate Duke. I wouldn't go there if they offered me a full ride (I'll explain if you want).

UVA and Dartmouth, however, are both places I'd probably love. Both schools, however, really don't offer much beyond the campus (especially Dartmouth). Having New Orleans right at your fingertips is an invaluable aspect of your education that you'll only get at Tulane. I honestly think a campus' surroundings are just as important in making your decesion as the campus itself.

hi tulsadem! we meet again!

and C'ville offers a lot, just more in terms of nature and history, not big city.

Absolutely. I'm definitely not trying to trash C'ville. I do, however, think that a city like NOLA (or D.C. for that matter :-) offer a lot more to the college experience that small college towns don't.

yes, im in at all 4

I would say Duke or Dartmouth, but I need more info

tulsa-why dont you like duke?

anyway, here are my pros and cons of each (im just doing 3 for each)

Duke Pros
-close to chapel hill and raleigh
-prestigious and academically sound
-school spirit
Cons
-durham leaves a lot to offer
-theater/music departments (my main focus) not so strong
-semi-pretentious feeling i get from the campus

Dartmouth Pros
-ivy league
-community feel--strong sense of togetherness
-no grad school
Cons
-i dont really like the d-plan
-2 hours from the nearest airport--way in the middle of nowhere
-frats and sororities seem to be the overbearing presence

UVa Pros
-prestigious
-love Virginia
-couple of people I know go there
Cons
-BIG
-Charlottesville is a bubble
-everyone who i talk to that goes there seems not to like it

Tulane Pros
-in New ORLEANS my beloved city
-theater/music programs are stronger
-honors program and big scholarship (possibly full tuition)
Cons
-not as prestigious (if i go here i feel like i will be letting people down)
-not as much school spirit
-missed opportunities to leave the city

sigh, i dont know what to do.

Dartmouth

UVa

Duke

Tulane

All are beautiful and fascinating places. You can't go wrong.

D-plan is awesome!! Sophomore summer is basically summer camp. You can go on multiple study abroads that are led by Dartmouth professors. You get special access to internships that give you a huge leg up in terms of getting a job. I think the D-plan's pros are significant.

I would pick Dartmouth or Duke easily.

bump. any more opinions?

any place offering more aids? the tuition differential may break the deal. btw, id go to uva if it was in-state tuition while others were expensive

well, my efc is fairly low so i get a good bit of need-based aid. tulane is giving me $24,000 in merit right now plus my finaid package, with a good possibility of a full-tuition scholarship. duke hasnt given me a finaid offer yet, and dartmouth's is pretty good. uva is OOS tuition and full of loans.
i think im crossing Uva off the list because of its sheer enormosity. i dont do well in gigantic environments.

since u don't like a school w/ big size, i would probably cross off Tulane as well, assuming that both duke and dartmouth are giving u good aids. btwn these two schools, something u should consider is the social differences. both schools are very good academically, yet pretty different in other areas. u might wanna go to duke if you're into sports and warm weather. but, if u can, you should probably visit both schools to see for yourself which campus feel and atmosphere u like better. btwn duke and dartmouth, u can't really go wrong.

tulane only has 6,000 undergrads im pretty sure, same size as duke. im visiting dartmouth duke and uva this month so we shall see.
