Hey so I live in GA, and I want to go to med school. Is it worth it for me to go out of state and do pre-med in Duke or is there not much of a difference to stay in state and do it in UGA? Money is not particularly a problem for me, but if there really isn’t much of a difference anyways I would prefer in state.
Also, I think I would stand out more as a student in UGA more than Duke…but I don’t know if that makes a difference or not.
I think that you are unfamiliar with the realities of the quality of students at UGA.
save the money and go to UGa.
Have you visited both schools?
And if you prefer in-state, then go in-state and save your money, since medical school is extremely expensive.
And since you don’t list any numbers, no opinion on admission chances.
No one here can tell you whether Duke is worth it since we don’t know your family’s financial situation. Have you run the EFC calculator to see how much each school will cost you?

I attended Duke over in-state UNC Chapel Hill because the former was markedly less expensive once merit and financial aid was factored in. My SO attended UGA. We wound up at the same top public university for grad school. Both universities provide solid undergraduate educations.
As for being pre-med, keep in mind that it’s possible (or even likely) that you’ll change career plans at least once. Many high school students think they want to be doctors, but very few wind up in medical school. In fact, only about half of the college students taking the MCAT later apply to medical school, and many more pre-meds switch career plans before that.
Thanks! I like hanging out with nerdy kids though and I’m not into parties and drinkies…just afraid of UGA steretotype I guess.
^^ any response would be heavily appreciated!
Thanks!

There are plenty of nerdy kids at UGA. The great thing about a school the size of UGA is there is a place for everyone.
Have you been to Athens yet?
Look into Agnes Scott.
Do you have a shot at honors college at UGA?
Oos, look into Bryn Mawr.
Duke isn’t nerdy btw.
@MYOS1634 Im hoping for honors…my SAT superscore is 1500 and my ACT average of math and english is 34 (which is all they look at I believe). My GPA is 4.0 unweighted and 4.596 weighted. Could someone maybe chance me for honors?
You have a good shot.
Run he NPC on other colleges.
If you want ~nerdy > work hard play hard, beside the colleges I listed, look into UChicago, Pomona, Reed, Carleton (for instance).
