Duke vs. Vanderbilt

I can't decide between Duke and Vanderbilt, but I want to ED to one of them. Can you give your opinions on the schools in comparison to each other? Also, how is rushing for sororities at both schools? Thanks.

Both schools are great, but please don’t apply ED just for the sake of applying ED to one of them. The schools are pretty similar, so what exactly do you want to know about each of them? I’d say the big difference is Nashville is much nicer than Durham, academically they are pretty similar, and Duke has a slightly better basketball team (Vandy is usually pretty good). Greek life is kinda big at both schools, but I think Vandy has more students participating in it (don’t hold me to that though). If you haven’t already, ask this in the Vandy forum, maybe someone knows a lot about them and Duke.

ED does help a bit, but for unhooked (Non-recruited athlete or non-legacy), it doesn’t help as much as you would think (it does help, just not as much as you first think when you see the overall numbers). Have you thought of Single Choice EA at some other schools, or are Duke and Vandy your 1-2?

Duke and Vandy are my top two, and I would have a much better chance at either if I applied ED. I visited both schools, and I love both campuses. Also, I’m from New York, so getting an internship or job in the city would be important to me and I don’t know my chances of that at either school.
I realize both schools are challenging, but I want to have an overall good college experience, so is there a good balance between academics and social life at both schools?
I think I would rush at either school, but I wanted to know about the processes at both and whether or not there is any hazing.

From what I know, sororities don’t really do as much hazing as frats, and if they do, its nothing like frat hazing. They are both great schools, so you can’t go wrong, but think about it for a few days and decide. Both schools are very similar, so it can be tough to decide, but Vandy’s location is probably a bit nicer and Duke has a better basketball team (that really is the big difference). Another one is that Duke and Vandy are both beautiful campuses, but use much different architecture. Academically, both schools are similar- they have some similarities and some differences, but both are very prestigious institutes that have internships and research.
