duke?

first i was wondering if duke has good math/physics programs
also im pretty shy and prefer to study than to have a life

perhaps most important....im not into basketball
its a good school but i dont think duke is for me
what do u think...

i think you sound like one sad, strange little man. you have my pitty.

I'm sure you can find people that share your same interests at Duke.

seems as though youve already made up your mind about duke so im not sure why you are wasting time posting on this board

It's never too late to start having a life :)

Every year you get a bunch of people who are very adamant about their dislike for basketball. Every year a portion of those people slowly become obsessed with it. It's a great and unique way to get to really know Duke. Sometimes an environment like that will help people come out of their shells.

Duke has a great undergraduate math program; its undergraduates typically place very well (top ten for the past several years) in Putnam, one of (if not the) most prestigious undergraduate mathematics competitions in the nation. Physics is not my area of interest so I cannot say much other than the fact that all of Duke's nobels (who actually won the nobel for research done here, as opposed to hired after they were laureates) have been in physics fields.

You will find that no matter which school you choose to attend, there will be people of many different personality and social types. I know people at Duke who study 24/7, some who don't study at all, and many who manage to both study and have fun. I think this is true of most, if not all, institutions.

When I first came to Duke, I had no interest in basketball. After having spent 2 years here, I can say for sure that I still don't have much of an interest in it as a sport (pretty much because my free throw percentage is near zero). But one thing I have gained is an appreciation for basketball to bring together the whole school community, it really is one of the keystones of the Duke experience whether you like basketball or not.

That being said, you should try your best to choose a school that is the best fit for you. But keep in mind that no school will be free from factors which you dislike.
