Should someone even mention modeling in their application essay when it asks about extracurriculars? I've been working since I was 13 and it does explain what I did do with a large portion of my life until age 16 but then again, it didn't really take a whole lot of effort on my part. Should i just stick to talking about dance, yearbook, and student co. and other activities when there was some actual intellectual imput? I'm applying to BU, BC, Bates, Williams, Amherst, and Swathmore among others.

i say add it. you are obviously not dumb if you're applying to these schools, and it is a part of who you are..

Yeah, you're obviously not dumb. In fact...it may perhaps even be seen as a boon in the admissions process. I'm sure they get a lot of ugly nerds ^^. Haha...

I would include it- it's different, and will make you stand out more.

does it help at all if i post stats?...
SATI v800, w790, m700,
SATII Lit790 US History780 mathI 800,
ACT34,
gpa 3.873 unweighted...
it's actually the gpa that I'm worried about-it's not competitive at any of the schools I'm applying to, even with all the APs and honor-and it does kinda reinforce that "dumb model" perception...

Are you freaking kidding? You think a 3.87 UNWEIGHTED doesn't make you competitive? Especially with scores like those? If anything, that kind of thinking reinforces the whole "dumb model" idea.

hahaha. chill out, you have got to be kidding me

But is it something to put on an application...i mean, you would put senatorial aid, right? But would you include cashier? No, there's a difference because one took achievement and the other didn't. So the question is...should I include it just because it's unique?
(ps: 3.87 may be good at some schools but I'm ranked in the 2nd decile...of which Amherst only draws 6% and Williams 12%)

Include it because you have dedicated yourself to it since you were 13...that shows that you can be hardworking and focused...great qualities.

dude, a 3.87 is only in the 2nd decile in your school???

wow i would not like to go to that krazy smart school...

just a question: how come you're not aiming any higher (in our school choice)?

what's wrong with putting cashier down? it's not exactly a flashy position but someone's gotta do it. anyways just like senatorial aid it requires responsibility... are you sure you understand wat extracurriculars are.... normal ones are fine, too, you know.. but, cooler ones like modeling ARE better

Actually.... you would put chashier on a college app. Its work experience which colleges value.

i was a cashier too (well...in retail...hollister...so not really...but i DID know how to use the register...so it counts!) Works both ways then i guess

Amherst and Williams are excellent schools; the best in liberal arts today-so that really is "aiming higher" ^ The only real crazy school I'm looking at is Deep Springs...which I doubt will register with many people here anyway...but trust me, it's amazing

mention it.... being a model has no connection with ur intelligence.... applying to these colleges and looking at ur scores, universities will see that... in fact i know many models who r extremely intelligent people.... what can be more pleasing to have in campus than a super intelligent sexy girl???? this does count in an society that only cares about superficiality....

peace

good luck

haha tashin , if theyre considering deep springs, its a guy...

Why wouldn't you put cashier down? You're supposed to put it down if you were one.

Also, Deep springs! That's a cool place to be looking at but I would definitely hate it there. One of my friends applied last year. He made the first cut, went there and got interviewed and all but unfortunately didn't make the second/final cut.

yes-it is a guy (hence the masculine component "boy" within the sn-ignoring please the feminine French noun "fleur"...) and THANKS! After talking to you and every1 else I know, I will be putting my work w/ Elite in the application (only the major jobs; runway mainly just because it's recognizable name-dropping) as well as the work as a cashier, if only to be democratic. Thanks for yr help!
