Dumb question

One question:

Is it possible to change majors if the majors are totally unrelated, possibly in different schools/department?

I'm accepted to the International Development Program, would it be possible to switch into Communications or something to do with film, or would i have to apply to them?

haha yeah it is easy to change majors within the college...but comm u have to apply because it is impacted, its competitive to get in, im applying in april...

film is not in the college of letters and sciences, it is school of film, theater and television, so im not sure if you can be a film major...

What are some of the basic things/classes you have to take to get into Comm?

i kinda talked about this in other thread up there, but basically there are a set of pre req classes for comm. you need at least 2 to apply, and no more than 4 is recommended at the time you apply becaues they see this as you relying on getting into the major. it is VERY important to take a wide breadth of classes because they want to see that you have a backup plan. the last thing you want is to take all comm prereqs and not get in (they will tell you about this at comm major meetings). The prereqs can be found here: <a href="http://cis.ucla.edu/studyArea/course.asp?type=MAJ&code=181%5B/url%5D">http://cis.ucla.edu/studyArea/course.asp?type=MAJ&code=181</a></p>

admission is very selective because its a very impacted major. you need a really high gpa

film u apply to for junior year (the program is two years) and its VERY competitive. only about 15 ucla students are admitted.

Crap... I have already taken five Comm pre-req courses. Sociology 1, Econ 2, Speech 1, and a Statistics course from a local community college, and Psychology 10 from AP test. Can I still apply as a Comm major?

can you apply for comm freshman year? Or is it junior year only?

well yermama why on the comm degree requirements page does it say that you have have to completed 7 lower division courses?

^ by the time you graduate you will have taken 7 lower div courses...not necessarily at the time you apply...

freshmen can apply to the comm major usually by spring quarter (you need to have 36 units by the end of spring to apply i believe)...so if you have like 31 by the end of winter, you would apply when the app comes out in spring since you'd have over 36 when you leave spring quarter

and yeah you can apply, im sure there are people who get in with that many, its just not recommended.

yermama, can you answer my question above? I'm really lost what to do...

i answered it (sorta) above...it doesnt mean u wont get in, you should still definitely apply.
