Dummer PreReqs: what to do?

*summer
I know pre-reqs in the summer are looked down upon by med schools but if I took physics and calculus in the summer, would it look bad?

did you not answer your own question in the post? Those are pre-reqs…

Yeah but they are the least important pre-reqs. people in these forums need to take the stick out of their ass…

Yes. It would look like you were attempting to game the system. That’s not a good thing. And BTW, no stick. ;)

So the point of taking classes over the summer is typically so that you can finish them at your leisure (ie you don’t have to fit them into your schedule), they’re easier, and they’re shorter.

To be sure, there are a lot of hoops to jump through to get to medical school. Arguably, you shouldn’t skimp on any one area, because if you have any deficiencies, you’re greatly decreasing the likelihood of admission. That said, in my opinion, one of the worst places to skimp is on courseload. Why? Med school is TOUGH. The content is challenging and the volume is unbelievable. Sure you need to take those classes so you have the prerequisite knowledge necessary for medical school. But more than that, you need to take them so you can show med schools you can handle the insane academic environment of medical school. And, quite frankly, if you take the easy way out by taking the classes at a community college over the summer, you’re just not setting yourself up for the success you could be.

Furthermore, there are much better things to do with your summers than take classes you should be taking during the regular school year at your regular university. By better, I mean more fun, more rewarding, more useful–things like studying abroad, doing research, relaxing with your friends, getting clinical experience, etc.

(And for future reference, for the most part, anything that involves gaming the system is probably not in your best interest. If it were as straightforward as manipulating a system to gain admission, you can rest assured everyone else would be doing that too.)

Why not take some non-pre-reqs over the summer? That would make your semesters easier.

BTW…writing things like “stick out of their XXXXX” is really impolite. The people here are very helpful. Don’t ask a question if you’re going to be upset over the answer.
