Duquesne, Loyola Maryland, University of Scranton, or James Madison

I have already been accepted to all of these schools, just having trouble with picking one. I will be studying finance as my major and I am a relatively preppy person. Which school did you think will be the best fit for me?

Money a factor? i like JMU the best.

Money is not much of a factor

^^^

What does that mean? What are your parents saying? Are they saying that they’ll pay $50k per year for the privates? If so, then super. If not, then money is an issue.

I got enough in scholarships for the private schools that the cost of each school would be within 1000$ of each other

Oh great.

Have you visited each school? if so, what did you like or dislike about each?

(my choice, I think, would be Loyola Maryland)

I’ve visited each once and I am leaning slightly toward loyola. Why do you say loyola?

Loyola: liked the dorms and the high ranking business program. Also liked how close it is to my house (I live in Baltimore suburbs) disliked that some if the students seemed pretentious but that may have just been the few people that I saw.

Scranton: I really liked the people and the professors seemed knowledgeable when I did an overnight thing there. Disliked that they had an unranked business program

Duquesne: liked the campus. Disliked the fact that there wasn’t much focus on their business program because most people go there for their pharmacy and pre-med

James Madison: liked that they have a very high ranked business program and the people there seemed nice (held doors etc.) disliked that their business program is only two years long so you have to apply for it junior year and disliked that it was such a huge school and I felt like more of a number.

Bumpbumpbump

From your description, it sounds like Loyola-MD your best choice to me (especially if you want to settle in MD, the school likely has a good alumni network and internship opportunities there). From what you report, I’d knock off Scranton and Dusquesne since you don’t think their business program are as strong. And personally I strongly prefer direct admit programs to programs such as JMU where you have to apply once you are there. I know some people who went to a college, didn’t get into the program they wanted and then were forced to either change their intended major or transfer - neither option was very attractive.

Since you are so close to Loyola and are leaning towards that school, I’d consider going back again, maybe even do an overnight if that is available so you can get a better sense of the student body.

It seems like your dislike for Loyola Maryland isn’t really a dislike…there are pretentious students at every campus. I agree that perhaps you need to re-visit since you are so close and see if you can get a better peek at the students there.

Yeah, I am visiting James Madison again on Monday and then Loyola the following Saturday. Loyola seems like the best choice right now but I’ll visit JMU with an open mind on Monday.

Does anyone have any personal experience with any of the schools listed and does anyone have any insight as to how much the average person spends on the meal plan at Loyola?

I sent you a PM.

Yeah I saw thanks for the info
