I have narrowed down my college choices to these three schools. I've been accepted to the 6-year DPT program at all of them and have received similar Merit Aid from all. I have visited all three and have been to Duquesne twice, though both times the weather did not cooperate! Can anyone give me insight to life at Duquesne? Why I should choose Duquesne?

hey, i too was accepted into all of those schools. i am visiting duquesne this wknd…i’ll post here how it is. how are SLU and Marquette?

I love them all - basically because they are all similar and met my criteria. City colleges with a campus, great for my major, mid-size. I’ve met a lot of the professors from all three and really like them. They all offer study abroad options that fit into my 6-year program (some schools cannot manage that). That’s why I’m having a hard time deciding.
Let me know how you like Duquesne. Also, are you attending the Admitted Students Days at SLU and Marquette – I’m heading up to both next weekend – SLU on Saturday – then flying to Milwaukee and spending Sunday and Monday (sleep over with current student). Hopefully, then I can make a decision.

hey, glad to hear all those schools fit your major. I visited Duquesne last wknd, and really liked it, so I i will be attending in the fall! Although SLU and Marquette are really good schools, I just think they are too far for undergrad. good luck with your decision!

Although my daughter is not in PT, she mostly enjoyed her freshman year at Duquesne. Her classes were small and interesting with very approachable professors. She felt challanged. There were lots of student groups and she joined a few. Downtown is an easy walk and there is professional hockey and concerts at the Consol Energy Center at the edge of campus. Dorms and food are okay. Overall, Duquesne has a very friendly and caring atmosphere. And they are pretty generous with financial aid.

The one thing that she didn’t like was the weekend partying that was too excessive for her. But, maybe that is just a freshman thing.

Did you decide, erp1821?

201126 & lkf725

Thanks for your insights. lkf725 – I’m glad to hear that your daughter had a good freshman experience at Duquesne. I think the partying dies down some as the students mature – remember it’s their first time away with lots of freedom. If I attend, I plan on living at Assumption (I’ve been accepted into the Honors Program), so maybe it will be a little calmer at that dorm. The one negative thing about Duquesne that comes up on the review sites is that it can be very cliquey – many students already know each other because the majority of the population comes from Pittsburgh. Coming from so far away (Florida) and knowing no one – would I be welcomed?

Good Luck to you 201126 - I hope your experience at Duquesne is wonderful!!! I’m sure it will be – I feel I would be happy at any of the three colleges that I’m down to.

Though…I’m still deciding – I leave tomorrow for SLU and Marquette. I’m hoping that
seeing all these colleges a second time will help me with my decision. I really liked Duquesne so much more during my second visit – so I’ll see what happens this weekend with SLU and Marquette.

Keep you posted

I think that some people there are cliquey, but not related to their high schools. You probably find that anywhere. The majority of people are really nice, though.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all your insights. I have finally made my decision and will be attending SLU in the fall. I feel it’s the best fit for me. Good luck to all!!!

Best of luck to you! After all, so much of college is what YOU make of it.
