Duquesne vs Pitt vs Penn State for elementary education

I'm not sure where I should go, I'd appreciate any advice on helping choose.
I want to get dual certification in elementary education and special education.
Pitt seems to have a good 5 year program
( School of Education > Academic Departments > Psychology in Education > Programs > Applied Developmental Psychology > ADP CASE Teacher Preparation )

Do the other schools have similar or better programs? I don't see any programs on their websites that offer regular ed and special ed.

Also what other things should I consider before choosing?

Are you instate for Pitt/Penn St?

Yes, I live in PA

Go back to your elementary or middle school and ask the principals. They make the hiring decisions, so if anybody has an opinion that matters, they do. I’m sure that they would be happy to advise you and they might remember you 4 years from now.

I’ve heard great things about the Pitt program. I am only going by folks in my town, but the student teaching seems to be easier to find at Pitt (which makes sense based upon the larger population in the area.)

Duquesne is conservative for a Catholic school. It is also smaller.

We heard enough grumbling in every major at Penn State about difficulty getting into courses that my son would not look at the school. Schreyer (Honors College) is the only place we didn’t hear of this. I would ask direct questions at Penn State as to how difficult to get your courses and student teaching.

Going along with CRD’s idea, you can also ask your County Intermediate Unit since many programs for Spec Ed run through the County.

I think for the combination you seek, Pitt is absolutely the best bet. It is likely cheaper than Duquesne too.
