I was accepted to Duquesne University's pharmacy program, as well as Pitt's pre pharm program (not conditional though). Is anyone else in the same situation or have an opinion on which school I should attend? Is the pitt program too competitive to expect to graduate with a pharm D degree if i am not a conditional acceptance? If possible, list pros and cons of schools. Thanks soo much!

I got accepted to both Pitt and Duquesne. I would say Pitt but yeah the competition is rough so if your not up for it then Duquesne might be a better choice. Who gave you more money?

S got into both too a few years ago. He was concerned about the competition at Pitt (taking the prepharm classes on a curve with the premed students, since premed is huge at Pitt). He also didn’t like the facilities of the pharm program at Pitt when he did the tour. It seemed as if they were old and in the basement of buildings. On the other hand, Duquesne seemed too small and easy to him. It just didn’t feel competitive at all. He wanted a big college experience and didn’t want to feel like he’d run into kids from high school every day.

He went back and forth, weighing the great Pitt experience against his perception of having a much better chance of actually becoming a pharmacist by going to Duquesne. The goal ultimately was to become a pharmacist. He was told that there were jobs everywhere, and that it wouldn’t really matter where he went to school when it came to finding employment. He acknowledged that if he changed majors, he stood a better chance of finding a good backup major at Pitt. Duquesne, on the other hand, offered him their honors college and a chance of getting really good grades which might help with a transfer or with future opportunities.

Finally my kid made his decision. He’s a pharmacy student at SUNY Buffalo.

Good luck with your decision. They are both good choices.

IBSenior254- So far only Duquesne has offered me money. However, the tuition for both schools with the scholarship from Duquesne winds up being the same amount.

Neonzeus- Im considering the same pros and cons of your son. I’m planning on visiting both schools again soon to make my decision. As of now I’m leaning towards Duquesne but who knows what I’ll choose in the end. Does your son like pharmacy so far?

I’m trying to choose between majoring in marketing at Pittsburgh University vs majoring in health supply chain management at duquesne university which will hopefully lead to a future in pharmaceutical business. Student life seems to be so much more diverse and fun at Pittsburgh but Duquesne is awesome in a completely different way. As for my future career, I’m hoping that if I go to Duquesne I’d be employed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals in the future but if I go to Pitt the major is more broad filled with an expansion of career opportunities. I’m trying to pick based off where I’d enjoy college life more and where I’d receive better chances of a successful well-paid future. Does anyone have opinions on which of the two I should choose?
