Duration of higher education

Am I correct in saying that the amount of time spent in US universities is higher than in most other places?

For instance, a standard British undergrad student takes 3 years. Moreover, there are integrated engineering programs (i.e. masters + bachelors) that take 4 years. That would be a 2 year reduction from the US 4 years for bachelors and 2 year for masters.

the UK system has students doing the GCE A levels which is somewhat equivalent to first year university classes. if you’ve done the GCE A levels (and have decent grades), you can easily get up to one year’s worth of credits to offset your credit requirement for graduation

^^ exactly. I go to school in Germany and will be getting my Abitur this year. I have been taking much more advanced classes than the typical high school student.
