Duren VS San Jac

I'm going to be a freshman girl at UT next year. I plan on rushing and on living in co-ed public housing. So far for my preferences I have San Jac listed first and Duren second. What are the pros and cons to each? Which one do you think is better?
I know Duren is closer to greek events and San Jac is closer to campus.... opinions?
Thankkkss

I would think about where you’re classes will be for your first year and find which is more practical for you. I personally would prefer San Jacinto because it has Cypress Bend next door and it’s a short walk to Gregory Gym and the food locations in Jester. I’m also assuming that quite a few of your freshman friends may be living in Jester.

Live in Duren rather San Jac. They’re essentially the same dorm situation. And that added distance to San Jac feels longer after a few drinks.

You’ll be thankful you lived in Duren when you’re walking home at 3 am after a party. I recommend to all our rushees to live in Duren rather than San Jac for that reason.

Just food for thought. Good luck with rush!

If you are going to rush, Duran is the answer.

Since everyone is placing Duren above San Jacinto based on location, it might help for you to know some travel times by foot:

San Jac to Duren ~12-13 minutes (diagonal cut across campus)
Duren to middle-ish of west campus ~5 minutes
Duren is roughly on the way to West Campus from San Jac

San Jac to Stadium ~ 1 minute
Duren to Stadium ~ 13-14 minutes

San Jac to where most people have class (Business, Natural Sciences) ~6-8 minutes
Duren to " " ~6-10 minutes

San Jac to PCL (Main library) ~4 minutes
Duren to PCL ~10-11 minutes

These times will vary by person, of course, but the general trends should be right.

It is a relatively long walk from West Campus to San Jac so the shortened trip from Duren is certainly nice. However, you’ll pay for this with the extra minute or 2 it takes you to get everywhere else during the week.
