<p>Yes, I realize that shoegal; that was my point. The base models (including the powerbook) of notebooks do not come with a DVD burner yet. It is a seperate option that will end up costing you about 100 or so dollars more than the base price.</p>

<p>If its a desktop just go to newegg and buy the NEC burner (I think it is something like the 3820A or the 3420A) that costs $37. It is one of the best on the market and it costs so little. It can do just about anything and do it quite fast (and it is a very quiet drive for watching movies).</p>
<p>Dont listen to the people talking about region codes, they dont know what they are talking about. The region code does not apply to burning (unless you burn your own movies and PUT a region code on them) at all and it doesnt matter where you buy the drive because they all let you change their region code a certain number of times when you first install it.</p>
<p>Otto, do you have a good recommendation for a reasonably external hard drive? What about for an external dvd burner (these are for a laptop, by the way)?</p>
