so i saw someone post this comment...

"Last year finalists were invited to attend one of two on-campus interview weekends. About 45 finalists attended each weekend. About 1/3 of the finalists will receive an award: 10 Ren (full tuition), 10 Gen (1/2 tuition) and 10 other scholarships for varying lesser amounts.

You must attend the interview weekend to be considered. UR will reimburse you for some/all of your travel expenses. "

so the finalists that attend will get scholarships? 1/3 of ALL finalists or 1/3 finalists for one type of program? And do you have to attend both days or just one day? Basically how does this work? lol

and when are these finalists notified????

(have they been already???)

You are notified about whether you are being considered for Renaissance within the first acceptance letter you receive. Otherwise, about a week later, you hear back about what merit award award you received along with financial aid.

Actually GuitarRckr, my D's invitation to the be a Ren finalist last year came separately--and before--her official acceptance packet.

Her invitation letter arrive via FedEx in very, very early March (the 3rd, IIRC.)

Her official acceptance packet arrived a week later.

And pomegranate--I suspect (but don't know for a fact) that Ren notices have already been sent out. Finalists get a 2-3 weeks heads-up to make travel arrangements.

And chargersbolt-- Last year there were 90 individuals (total over the 2 weekends) invited to interview for Renaissance Scholarships. 30 scholarships (10 Ren, 10 Gen and 10 other) were awarded to finalists. So 1/3 of ALL finalists received awards.

And, no, you don't get to "pick" which session you attend. You are invited to attend one specific weekend. (D didn't even know that UR held 2 interview weekends. One of her student hosts let it slip that another group of Ren interviewees has been through the week before.)

@WayoutWestMom

thnks for the answer... my dad actually called today and apparently i was nominated but did not make the final cut :( looks like it'll be a SUNY for me...

@pomegranate

---I'm sorry the news for you wasn't better. UR is a terrific place, but my other D attended (and graduated from) our local (third tier) state flagship U--and she had some terrific opportunities there too.

College is what you make of it. Good luck.

@pomegrante: wut do u mean u didnt make it and dat ur dad called? the interview didnt even start yet, which means they didnt even make their decision yet.

WayOutWestMom - That is what someone told me when I called to ask about the Renaissance. Unless they changed it this year, maybe it was a misunderstanding?

Otherwise, sorry for the confusion if I'm wrong.

GuitarRckr--Maybe they are doing it differently this year. I can only tell you that is how it happened last year for my D.

WayOutWestMom is right; it changed this year. Sorry for the confusion!

Does this mean that if we have neither received an offer of acceptance nor an invitation for the Renaissance, that we should abandon hope (of attending UR)?

Tetraoxygen, nope.

A question concerning the Meliora Alumni Scholarships: my D applied for admission in mid to late December and hasn't received a response yet. Lately, she's been bombarded with e-mails from UofR asking her to apply for the Meliora Alumni scholarship, which she finally did on Monday. (She didn't do it initially because, to be frank, she didn't know it even existed until she had her interview in January, and by then, she thought it was too late to apply.) Is it, in fact, too late for her to have applied for it? Was this some glitch e-mail sent in error by the Financial Aid office? Thanks for your help.

Can someone tell me about the IB Scholarships? Would like to know details of requirements, amount per year, etc. Thanks!

CountingDown, IB scholarships are given to students who complete the FULL IB program which includes Theory of Knowledge. If a student is full IB AND admitted to UR he/she may receive a scholarship. The amounts vary based on merit.

Thanks – that’s good to know!
