so i'm your typical asian girl nerd but i love to dye my hair lots of different fun colors, currently i'm sporting pink tips but thinking of turning my whole head pink. i don't have any piercings or the like, and i'll be dressed properly.

should i dye my hair back to its natural black color before any kind of interview, or will the admissions offices be okay with my unique appearance?

i think pink stripes would be okay, you would seen unique. but please don't dye it FULL pink.. that would be a little extreme. but if you love dying your hair so much, why not dye it black for the interview, and afterwards dye it WHATEVER YOU WANT! =D

unless you're interviewing for some very conservative school, go ahead and stay with your tips. Interviewers -- and schools -- appreciate some individuality & character.

it depends on the school - but it will make you memorable to most AO's, unless you're looking at an elite, preppy southern LAC such as washington and lee or davidson...neither of which are really popular choices for asian nerds with pink hair, anyway! ;-)

Keep the pink tips for now -- it's a trendy statement without being too over the top poser. Shoot, if Rivers Cuomo can get into Harvard on his I woke up one morning and discovered I'm a rock star essay, you'll be just fine.

If you find yourself having to eliminate some meaningful aspect of your character or appearance for a school, it's probably not the school for you anyway.

Be yourself! Any school that would worry about pink hair stripes is not one you would be comfortable attending anyways.

This sounds about right.

Colleges aren't the same as the business world. This sort of thing doesn't bother them so much.

Trust me, I saw an impressive array of hair colors among MIT students. I had emerald green streaks for a while as a sophomore.

If for some reason there's a notably conservative or preppy school that you want to go to - perhaps it has major features that overcome the personality clash - or you know that your interviewer is notably conservative or preppy, then you might want to consider dying it black.
