i was offered a triple in dykstra hall .. and from what i hear , it doesn't sound that exciting .. the good thing i hear is that it is very social, which can also be bad if it means i won't be able to study in my room .. but bad things are that the rooms there are tiny, bathrooms are worse than usual, and somethin about ghosts too .. which is a little scary .. hahaha. i'm curious if anyone lives or knows anyone who lives here? and is it really THATT bad. and also, if i submit a CAR along with my friend, will we still have a slight chance of being reasigned together? THANKS so much in advance.

Hey, I got Dykstra too! I saw it this past weekend. The bathrooms aren't fantastic, but a dorm is a dorm. =]

hmm, so what is wrong with the bathrooms .. besides you know , being communal? and are the rooms ridiculously tiny or livable in your opinion? i'm debating whether i should request a change or stick it out .. ahhh.

I hear that plazas have bigger rooms than the res. halls.

The bathrooms were just very...public bathroomish, minus the utter nastiness. Nothing undoable. And the rooms were small, but the only other room that I saw was a suite, so my POV might be distorted. Nothing unlivable in my opinion, but I'm not a claustrophobic person. Hope that helped!

i got dykstra hall too! i want to change it.. even though it is really social..

thanks for that!! well i am aware that plazas are a bit more spacious.. and about the bathrooms, i think i can handle it as long as it's not tooo nasty but seeing as they maintain them daily, i dont think it would be a problem. i really wanted a double in a hall but i'm stuck in a triple .. and though i'm not claustrophobic, the bigger rooms in the plazas seems nicer now that i think of 3 people in one room. does anyone know how likely it is that they will accomodate a change? do you have to give a reason?

yeah .. i'd like a change to.. but i'm not sure how likely it will be that it happens. are plazas really NON social ?? i think it's blown out of proportion a little. hmm.

actually... of all the people I know who got Dykstra their first year, they all want to go back again.

really ?? what did they like so much about it ? that'd be helpful .. =) i want to hear good things about it bc everyone keeps making it seem really bad.

Is It Really That Bad?! I Heard The Showers Have No Doors .... But There's Curtains Right ?...

no doors ? whatt ? i hope so .. does anyone know for a fact ?

dykstra is very popular! dykstra is sought after because it is so close to campus an d westwood. plus its cheap. but if you hate noise, need space, and like clieanliness, yes i can see why you'd be upset.

If you're planning on living in a res hall, Dykstra's fine. deal with it.

Same here, the people that I know of who got Dykstra first year and are staying in res halls are staying in Dykstra next year. I also know some people who got plazas first year and are moving to Dykstra next year.

Yes the showers have doors lol

It is smaller than the plazas/suites, but not that much smaller than the other res halls. It's a little shorter than (I-forget-which-res-hall).

It's also convenient that it's close to campus and Crossroads is nearby ( although I don't like Crossroads :/ )

Hmm.. Well Whatever.. I'll Just Try To Enjoy It :d

What grark said. Dykstra is not too bad; in fact it is one of the best residential halls if not the best.

Of course residential halls are loud and social, but the only time you want it to be quiet is during your sleep and study hours.

The floor study lounge may be an option, and the DeNeve study lounge is another. I think sleeping hours may be a problem if you'd like to sleep earlier than midnight.

As for space, you aren't going to be fitting 20 people in a room for any activity, or do any activity where you are camped in your room all day, so space should not be an issue.

Crossroads is close, but it is not terrific. Or at least after a while.

Are plazas really NON social ??
[/quote]
Yes, people close their doors and watch TV by themselves. They lock themselves into their rooms and study all day.

OF COURSE NOT! Sociality is not dependent on objects (plaza buildings). Instead, it is dependent on the people who live in the buildings. Therefore, if your floor has active people who like to socialize and bond with one another (minus the cliqueness), then the floor will be social!

is it really hard to study in there? and how close is the work out facility?

I've been to Dykstra to work on a lab report, and it was odd. It's alright for people to talk in the lounges.

Also, when people try to study after 9, there's random people who come in with burgers and food and just talk. Headphones have a 60% efficiency in this case.

Occasionally, there's people who come to the lounge to watch a movie or some youtube stuff. Odd isn't it, for a place called the "STUDY lounge".

The gym is about 5-10 minutes walking distance away. A closer exercise room which has very archaic machines (but in working condition) is next to the dining hall.

This thread reassures me a bit more :) (got a Dykstra triple)

So the beds are twin longs, right? And how far are they raised off the floor (to stick storage under there)? And how much room is there for additional furniture, like plastic storage shelves/drawers.

Oh, and it's supposed to be close to the campus, so around how long does it take to walk there?

And I know it's old, but the rooms aren't that dirty or gross (moreso than the average dorm) are they?

....how do you say the hall's name??? dik-straw ?

Although I prefer plazas, I've got a triple in dyksta hall...

I'm fine with it as long it doesn't smell...that's the worst~
