hi!
okay, i got my UCLA housing offer for DYKSTRA HALL. i don't know ANYTHING about the dorms at UCLA. i took a tour, but i don't know about the "reputations" and stuff, so if anyone knows anything about DYKSTRA HALL i would totally appreciate ANY input.
Thank you!

OMG! I GOT DYKSTRA HALL TOO!
AND mine's a TRIPLE ROOM.. =(
i heard its crowded, but convienient at least.
it's not too bad. We'll be dormates! nice to meet you!

yeah, i got a triple also. :( well, at least we will get to experince the true college-dorm-life, right?
do you know anything about DYKSTRA HALL??

My son-in-law and niece both LOVED Dykstra Hall. My #2 D just got Rieber Hall, triple. Anybody know about Rieber?

i just got a triple in rieber too. it seems everyone in the res. halls are getting triples

I got a double in Dykstra...I'm guessing I'm a lucky one.

Triple in Dykstra.
I just want to know how it fares against the other residential halls

Dykstra is a fun dorm - I lived there last year. The rooms are slightly smaller than the other res hall rooms, and I didn't like the bathrooms, but whatever. People tend to be very social in Dykstra - its the stereotypical dorm (one long hallway with lots of rooms on each floor). It is the oldest res hall on the hill, so its condition isn't exactly perfect, but hey - adds character right :)

Icarus is pretty much right.... I was just in a Dykstra triple earlier today, it wasn't too bad. The bathrooms aren't great but you'll get by.

What exactly is it about the bathrooms that makes them not so great?

so dykstra is cool then
and did you get your packets in mail????????????
cuz i had to look up my status online at housing.ucla.edu besides so far it say dykstra hal pffer pendidng and i don't know what kind of room i will get, i think it will be triple cuz, i had read about the shortages and just marked that my first choice.

Dykstra Triple.
I like Dykstra because it's basically DeNeve's little brother and I can mooch off the new-ness of DeNeve, the close proximity to campus/westwood, and the good food.
Kinda bummed I got a triple though. I was in honors too guess I just didn't luck out. Owell!

ive been looking at all the "amenities" each hall gets and dykstra hall has the least. for example there is no fitness room or recreation, but you can access it at De Neve. is this a problem, since you have to go all the way to de neve just to do that stuff? by the way, can anyone tell me what these recreation/fitness rooms are? are they really like workout gyms, basketball, etc?

can I get a link to these "amenities"? DeNeve fitness isn't too bad, because Dykstra is connected to DeNeve and I think we check in at DeNeve to get to Dykstra

its on the ucla housing site where you check out the residential halls. dykstra has like the least amenities, so i feel kinda bummed out. i was hoping for fitness/recreation room where i can work out or something without going to the gym or something. anyways, can anyone tell me more about these fitness/recreation rooms in the halls?

eh, don't pay much attention to these "amenities". You can use any of those things on the hill - they're not a huge thing anyway. Don't worry about it if your building has fewer "amenities" than another building.

icarus, what are these "recreation" and "fitness" rooms? are they like mini basketball gyms or workout areas?

They're like little workout areas. Just some mats, a couple treadmills, some machines... nothing too major. Dykstra is really close to the Wooden Center anyway, might as well go to the whole gym down there.

I could complain about the general lack of basketball courts on the UCLA campus, but that's an argument for another time.

do a lot of people even use these recreation/fitness rooms? or do most people just go to to wooden center?

The rec rooms are pretty much only for cardio.

Oh btw I'm in a triple in dykstra right now and it's pretty hectic. It's like trying to fit an elephant into a shoe box.

holla
