Dykstra Hall

Most folks just go to Wooden. It's much nicer there anyway. During finals week or late night there's a few more people in the rec room (when they can't justify the 5 minute walk to Wooden). I think there's a pool table in the rec room as well.

I was placed in Dykstra Hall but the site didn't say whether I got a double or triple. Did anyone else have this problem? Should I call up UCLA Housing?

Dykstra triple. does anyone know if it has a room for laundry?

yeah right now i have mixed views on dykstra. on one side, its extremely social, but id rather dorm along with freshmen, rather than returners. also its the oldest hall, the dorms are supposedly smaller, and other stuff like bathrooms.

anyways, are dykstra triples really that crowded? anyone got pictures of dykstra dorms?

hmm...i don't know if i'm feeling so good about Dykstra Hall.
from what people have been saying...the bathrooms sucks. it's overcrowded. it's full of returners instead of freshmen. it's old.
it can't be this bad right?? i want to look forward to living the college life!

hello88-- The bathrooms are fine, anyone who thinks they're *ty get used to them after a week. The rooms are overcrowded and that's the one downside. You are closer to the rest of campus and Westwood than all the other dorms (a quarter of Hedrick has a Salt Lake City area code) and you're just as close if not closer to Gayley and Landfair where you'll party. The food is the dankest of all the res halls, except for lunch on Monday and Thursday when Rieber has sushi. As far as returners to freshman goes, Dykstra's going to have the most freshman by far. You'll meet a few sophomores for sure but they'll only benefit you (they'll be able to help you to not do stupid * in your first few weeks.)

just keepin it veal

i'm in a triple in dykstra too

it sounds chaotic, but it should be interesting. =]
haha, yupp.

so the food at dykstra is the best (if you dorm in dykstra, do you eat in de neve's dining hall?) ? do people also eat at other dining halls other than their own if they prefer other halls' food (like rieber's sushi)?

er..are you sure dykstras going to have the "the most freshman by far?" i thought dykstra has one of the least freshmen in the halls.

On the floor I live on it's about 90% freshman and I'm always on the fourth and fifth floors and I only know 2 sophomores on either of those.

And you can eat at whatever dining hall you want to but you might want to get a taxi or book a plane ticket if you plan on eating in hedrick.

"The food is the dankest of all the res halls, except for lunch on Monday and Thursday when Rieber has sushi. "

Okay um, do you mean "dankest" as in like "sickest" as in like "the best" or do you literally mean "dankest" as in "raunchily bad."

basically what im asking is, is the food at DeNeve good?
Cuz i know UCLA has like the best college food in the nation...

Dining halls are more or less the same anywhere, each with its own specialties.

And sushi isn't at Rieber; it's at Hedrick. And it's not that much worse than Rieber. It's only the stairs up to Rieber that's the worse part.

And uhh.. personally, Dykstra is like the worse hall. You gotta go up a couple flights of stairs through De Neve (the nice stuff) and then the rest is like creepy elevators, cramped hallways, and a very conditioned environment.

is dykstra the worst hall mainly because it is old? do the dorms (inside) look older/uglier than other halls' dorms? how do the bathrooms fare? also, can someone explain to me the "Creepy elevators?"

My bad about Rieber, but I'm definitely glad I chose Dykstra. Unless you wanna walk for a half hour to each class, Dykstra's the way to go.

About the "creepy elevators"... They're just really slow and don't have marble floors and a voice that tells you what floor you're coming to like Rieber Vista and the other ritz carleton halls.

“Dykstra triple. does anyone know if it has a room for laundry?”

yea they do have a laundry room. i think one for each floor.

I think I was a freshman in HIGH SCHOOL when this question was asked. . .

wow resurrected thread.

well if anyone got dykstra and is worried about it, I have to say that getting placed in dykstra my freshman year was one of the best things that happened to me at ucla.
sure its dirty, but it was very social and I ended making a great group of friends that I still hang out regularly with today

Nobody answered th bathrom question: Why do Dykstra bathrooms suck? Haha.

The sinks don’t have counters and the shower stalls do not have changing areas. HOWEVER, the bathroom is ventilated a lot better than Sproul…its much bigger.
