Dyslexiaas an essay topic

do you think talking about my learning disability is a bad idea for an essay. I can show how I overcome it but it might cause colleges to see me as less strong student?

Have you ever read “The Gift of Dyslexia” ?

It’s OK to write about a learning disability as long as you talk about how you cope with it (successfully) and what you gained by having it. Sometimes it’s incite into how others view the world and how your unique view of the world can stimulate creativity. Sometimes it another “gift”.

My form of Dyslexia required my brain to memorize the placement of letters in almost every word I read and write because spelling makes no sense to me whatsoever (thank goodness for spell checkers). But - because my brain trained itself early to memorize placement my perception of spacial relationships is way way off the charts. PS: I didn’t know that everyone didn’t have that ability until a English Professor of mine (who I didn’t know was an expert on Dyslexia) showed me based on my spelling on pop quiz essays.

So don’t just write about your limitations - write about your gifts and if you don’t yet know how “Your” brain in compensating see if you can get some testing done because you are likely to find a talent you may be unaware of.
