When do we get an @duke e-mail account?

Sometime in May.

PS: There is a thread about this below your's. It's nice if people at least scan through old threads to see if common questions have already been answered. :)

(feels embarrased)

Though i do hear if you call the OIT help desk they can set it up for you before may

what is the oit help desk? do you have their number?

(919) 684-2200

So has anyone on here called the OIT help desk and actually done it? or are we just goin on faith right now. (Not that I don't believe you... I have heard that before... it would just make me more comfortable to hear someone say that they did it)

yeah, i called, but they said that you have to pay your enrollment deposit and thus become a "student" in duke's computer system in order to create your email account. as of now, all admitted (and not yet enrolled) students are labeled as "affiliates" in the computer system.

I called the OIT after my status had been officially changed to enrolled... the guy seemed nice enough but he said our accounts wouldn't be set up until mid May, so he didn't have any information for me.

Speculation: It sounded to me as though he would have been perfectly capable of setting up the account, but that that would have involved keeping a record of whose account had been created and whose would not need to be created, etc... in short, it sounds like they want to create all the accounts for the RD incoming freshman at the same time so as to prevent any duplicate accounts or confusion. Seems pretty logical... but dang it'd be nice to have a Duke.edu account =DD
