Did you have to turn in a tuition deposit before you got the new email? I still have the one that is merle.it.northwestern. Let us know how you went about it.

This is what the tech person emailed me:

Once you have activated your account you will have the option to change the portion of your email address which is before the @ symbol. To do so you will have to go to snap.it.northwestern.edu and click on the link that says 'Change Northwestern e-mail address'. If you need help with this once your account is active please write back and we will assist you further.

For a long time, my NetID wasn't working. Then I just tried it one day (yesterday) and it worked. I didn't do anything different.

At any rate, once you have your NetID, you can activate your email and do what the guy said above to change your "alias." Then you will technically have two emails; all the email sent to whateveryouwant@northwestern.edu will be sent to the ugly email address (lol).

No, I didn't pay my tuition deposit yet! Too soon for that stuff, haha. And regardless, I haven't received my financial aid info yet.

Thanks for the reply bro. I appreciate it.

Thanks man, my email looks much better now.

wow thanks a lot. my email is much nicer now

thanks so much !

Thanks -- kdennett is much better than kwd.lulu or whatever that other one was-- i never would have remembered it...

hey, do you guys have a link or something to change that email? mine already changed to netid@northwestern.edu without me knowing it and my netid sucks

by the way, netid is going to be your login for all your NU stuff. you use it for Blackboard, the main online program for course management. If you're in Chem, Arch uses it, and if you're an Engineer, Depot uses it as well.

Also, just a heads up (in case you're curious), NU forces you to change your netid password every so often (i had to change my password mid november or december freshman year) or they lock yoru netid and you have to pay a fine to unlock and change the pass. Your passwords also have to be "unique". I'm not sure what that means, but i think that it can't look similar to your previous password. Mere technicalities.

my email address isn't working properly, I can send emails from the address, but it cannot receive emails. Anyone have the same problem?

Make sure you know the difference between netid and email. Either one can be used to receive emails but the address changes.

Email: initial-lastname@northwestern.edu/email
Netid email: abc123@webserver.it.northwestern.edu

As far as I know you can't just email abc123@northwestern.edu which might be where you're getting into trouble.

ooo ok I figured it out, thanks
