E-mail saying I haven't submitted the commonapp?

I just received an e-mail (claiming to be) from "The University of Chicago" (uofchicago@c.422x.com) which says that I haven't submitted the Common Application.

I checked online, and according to commonapp.org, everything was submitted (green triangle and 'Downloaded'; all done online). I then noticed a difference between the name on this e-mail and the other e-mails I've received from Chicago ('The University of Chicago' as opposed to 'University of Chicago') and the e-mail (uofchicago@c.422x.com as opposed to collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu).

Would I be correct in assuming that this ISN'T an official e-mail? It looks so suspicious that I'm even hesitant about checking with Chicago (especially since I've already e-mailed them twice; it feels like I'm bothering them too much xD). I'm just asking this because the teacher recommendations and transcripts were sent by mail, so there's a slight possibility that THOSE weren't received. Could this be what the e-mail is saying, or is it just some guy's idea of fun?

The actual e-mail reads:

Dear ***,

Thank you for your interest in the University of Chicago!

We are glad to see that you have started the application process. However, according to our records, you have submitted the Chicago Supplement, but not the Common Application. Both pieces are required in order to complete your application..

Please submit your Common Application by Tuesday, November 10, 2009. We look forward to reading your application!

Best wishes,

You received this email because you have requested information from the University of Chicago,
or you indicated on a standardized test that you were interested in receiving information from colleges.

Unsubscribe

EDIT: I just realized that I did in fact get another e-mail from the same e-mail address prior to this (i.e. I doubt it’s fake). I guess I’m going to have to ask them about it :P.

(sorry for wasting your time :()

Better check. D also received a similar e-mail saying she didn’t submit the Chicago app with the common app even though both were sent in the same submission.

Did you call? D tried to reach the Admin office but was only able to leave a voice mail. Also forwarded the e-mail to the assigned Admin rep asking if this was a hoax e-mail. No response so far.

This is NOT a hoax email. Many universities use this system for automatic messages.

Thanks. I wish the Admin office was as quick to respond. How they lost 1/2 of the application is beyond us.

I had the same issue. You may have “Submitted” the common app, but you must sign off for each college.

For me, there was no problem (I e-mailed the admissions person on my uchicago account and she said the e-mail was a mistake). I guess I should just be more careful about thinking these things are hoaxes (I feel stupid xD).

(to repeat what PBush said: THIS WAS NOT A HOAX EMAIL - I was just not paying attention to the other e-mails I got from uchicago).
