E-mail

As a recently appointed candidate to the class of 2010 (who happens to be quite excited), I was curious as to when we receive our official e-mails. Does this take place at the end of plebe summer, or is it something we'll receive before we leave and can give out to friends prior to our early departure? Secondly, what is the format? When I was up on a CVW, the format appeared to be that of an alpha number, however are there aliases that allow friends/family an easier way to remember the address? Just curious...

Thanks,

LOL.

I'm sorry. I don't mean to be trite, but if THIS is the first thing to go through your mind after getting an appointment (and the subject of your first post), then you're not taking this seriously enough.

Worry about getting through Plebe Summer before you worry about e-mail, OK?

Priorities, son. PRIORITIES.

Well, I've had the LOA since December, and the Nom. since January so believe me, I've thought about the challenges ahead...a lot...probably too much. I need something to take my mind off the road ahead for a few lest I go nuts trying to comprehend the entire thing.

Besides, it was for a friend who (in a thoroughly positive, lightehearted manner) wanted to remind me that while his e-mail at a highly respected liberal arts college will contain a name, I'll be a number. I promptly told him that said number will most likely be defending his freedom one day.

Your e-mail address will be your alpha code with an "m" in front of it @usna.edu.

Example: m094321@usna.edu

I don't think we got our alpha's until I-Day though.

Nice comback on your stooge friend. ;)

Next time, just kick him in the nuts and be done with it! :D

Why the "m"? Is it for "Midshipman" or something?

you want if for college facebook or something?

Nah...I hate trash e-mails so my "quality" e-mail addresses are second to my social-security number in terms of privacy. My friend merely posed the question and piqued my interest in the matter.

Thats cool. Truthfully, I can't wait to get mine too. Although USNA is much different than any "ordinary" school, most of my friends said it really hit them that they were going to their upcoming college when they were given their college email. I'm sure I-Day will serve that function for us just fine however

you get your email when you get your computer. usually one or two days before the start of AC Year. It doesnt take getting an email address here for it to hit you and leave you wondering what you have done

ROFLMAO!

Ain't THAT the truth!

LOL!

Oh, man! People are going to think I went nuts in my office, I'm laughing so hard! :D

Most mids receive so much official communication via their "official" email that they keep a personal email vial yahoo or similar, for friends and family.
CM

Candidatemom is absolutely right. You do not want to give your official email address to a bunch of people. Limit it to your immediate family. Use another email address through Yahoo, AOL, etc to communicate with your friends. You do not want a bunch of junk mail to clutter an already full box of official communications.

I can see it now:

From: Commandant of Midshipmen
To: m915333@ usna.edu

Subj: Uniform for Noon Meal Formation

Ref: (a) MIDREGS 1991 Rev A

IAW Ref (a), Subj uniform is WUBA with Reefers and Grey Gloves, Carry Raingear. The fact that it is 90 degrees and sunny outside shall not be an acceptable reason to deviate.

That is all.
