E-mailing Professors for Internships

I'm currently a Junior in high school and I have a strong interest in Chemistry. I'm looking for some chemistry internships/programs/volunteering opportunities in New York City and I couldn't find much through a Google search. Should I e-mail Chemistry professors in nearby colleges and universities asking if the would have any opportunities where I could help them out or where they could mentor me?

Bump, someone help me out please.

I’m not sure if this will help you but here I go.

Most college professors use undergrads students for internships and volunteer opportunities so unless you have great connections it will be quite hard for you to actually find something. What you might want to look up some internships from this site: [STEM Resources for Undergrads](Summer Research Programs & Scholarships in STEM (Undergrad level))
Also in order to even be considered for an internship in chemistry you have to make sure that you have taken classes that make you stand out such as AP Chem or college Chem.

I hope this helped

I think it is worth a try. I basically emailed professors until I found one who was willing to take me.
