Ea 2015!

you should be receiving your decisions soon!

i just got my acceptance package today.

they even wrote a nice little blurb about why i was accepted! so nice.

no merit aid i don’t think though, which is kind of disappointing because i got 56k from willamette. :? or do they send out notices for those later?

Congratulations! I got my acceptance letter today too!

I don’t know about all merit aid, but when I went to visit the school, they told me that invitations for the Presidential Scholarships (for which you only need a 3.5 GPA and… I don’t remember the minimum test score/class rank) don’t go out until January or February.

Do you think you’ll definitely be going to Beloit or are you waiting to hear back from other schools? I’m like 90% sure Beloit is my top choice (spent a month there over the summer for the CLS program and LOVED it), but I have to wait for financial aid and National Merit information before I officially decide.

i think i really do like beloit. i’m waiting on a decision from Lewis and Clark, though. if i get in there, it will definitely be a very close decision.

I just got my acceptance letter today. I did a ten minute happy dance when I got it that consisted mostly of jumping up and down and up and down and up and down while listening to showtunes. So yeah, I am quite excited. I am currently registering for the January scholarship weekend. Is anyone going to one? Will anyone have to fly there? I’ve never flown before, and I’m not really when I should schedule a flight.

Does anyone have any idea how competitive the music scholarships are? Particularly for voice?

And the requirements are a 3.5 GPA or a class rank in the top 10%, and a 1220 combined SAT or a 27 composite ACT.

Beloit is one of my top choices, along with Wooster. It will probably come down to visits and how much money I get from each.

I’m so happy! does happy dance

i didn’t get any information about the january scholarship thing (probably because my GPA missed it, but i’ve got the ACT. :frowning: )

but with flights, you should always book as soon as you can. try not to fly out on a weekend, it’s more expensive to do so. fly in thursday if you can.

Aww, sorry to hear your GPA missed the mark. :frowning: Did your class rank make it, maybe?

Thanks for the flight advice. I wasn’t sure about how many days of school I would end up missing. :)

My GPA missed the mark too, but I talked to someone from admissions when I visited, and he said that if I raised it by the end of my second semester (which I’ll definitely do–last semester’s was 3.4 and I’m getting all As this semester), they’d let me apply. Unfortunately my school takes finals really late (Jan 17 is the last one), so I’m nervous about meeting the deadline.

That’s great that they’re letting your raised GPA count. I hope that you are able to meet the deadline. Best of luck!

Congratulations, everyone! Beloit is a wonderful school.

boilingwax, when my daughter was accepted to Beloit (a few years ago), her financial aid package arrived almost two months after her acceptance letter.

Boilingwax, you might still get some merit aid. I didn’t get any in my original acceptance letter, but I just got an Eaton Scholarship. Did you get a chance to interview at Beloit? My letter says I got it because my interviewer recommended me. Don’t lose hope yet!

Same with my daughter. She applied early action and heard (positively) two weeks ago. She also applied for the Presidential Scholarship, and just received a trustee scholarship yesterday (and she has to visit Beloit in February for a tour and an interview). I remember a very similar process for my son two year ago (he’s at Wooster now and likes it a lot).

Some schools (e.g., Wooster) send out award letters at the same time as the acceptance letters, but (from my experience), most schools send them out sequentially, with anywhere from a week to a couple of months delay. Personally I think sending them out separately is nice, as you (the student or the parent) get to savor the acceptance letter by itself without having to think much about the money aspect. To me, the acceptance is the part worth really celebrating, the award letter is just the bonus.

Congratulations, and best of luck hearing. Beloit’s a great school and I will be proud if my daughter chooses to go there.

i just thought i would post an update: i ended up with 116k at beloit!!!

i’m probably going there now. ironically enough, prior weeks to the scholarship i was like ‘if i just got some money at beloit, i’d probably go there instead of willamette.’ the more i learned about willamette the less i liked it.

OH MY GOSH. i’m still in shock.

Congrats! If you don’t mind, what soured you on Willamette?

honestly, it was a lot about the environment. it wasn’t really as i expected or what i wanted from college life when i read about it on the willamette board and once i joined the willamette message board for admitted students it sorta sealed it for me. they do have a lot of really fantastic programs, but so does beloit. i could see myself living happily at beloit much more.

although i’m visiting beloit in april, so we’ll see if beloit lives up to my expectations.

yo, has anybody visited beloit yet? I heard it’s pretty cold out there
boiling wax, contrats to you bro.

yo, has anybody visited beloit yet? I heard it’s pretty cold out there
boiling wax, contrats to you bro.

i’ve just check the weather forecast - it’s pretty hot out there during summer

@minek91 My S and I visited in mid-Feb. It was cold, but no colder than other places in the upper midwest. Lots of snow on the ground but roads and sidewalks kept clear. Great visit – he was ambivalent before seeing the campus but it shot way up on the list afterwards. Really liked the people – seems like a very tightknit community.

@ boilingwax – If you don’t mind me asking, were your awards (116K) all merit aid or have financial (need based) aid letters starting going out? My son, too, missed the GPA (unweighted) cutoff but had the test scores.

my awards were all merit. i received the Charles Winter Wood scholarship. i haven’t gotten my need based aid back yet, actually.

@ boilingwax Thanks for the feedback. Congrats on your awards!

My S received his fin. aid packet on 3/14 so they are in the mail.
